Hi everyone, this is kind of embarrassing, but her goes...
I believe I have a Hemorroid. In the past Iit would flar up now and then. It was just the time of the bm. There would be slight pain and a splattering of bright red blood. The next day everything was fine. For about a week now I have been having troubles. It has been on and off for about a week. Is that too long?
What I am concerned most about is the blood. How much do they bleed? There is blood in the toilet and when I wipe. To try and describe it is like when I am on my period. 2 wipes. Is that too much?
Today the color was more of a darker red instead of bright is that bad?
In your opionion, should I see a dr or wait it out a little longer? I have not been doing any home treatment b/c I don't know what to try. soak in warm water, use pads or oinments, try stool softeners, ,...?
Thanks so much!!
Dawn

Hi and Welcome
Hi Wren, thanks for the info.
To answer your questions. Right now they do not burn or itch. It sometimes is a little uncomfortable when I set down, but it is not pain. The only time I feel the pain is when I go and right after. No, I have never had a colonoscopy. For that does a specialist or the reg doctor preform?
I can't tell if it is hard, I clench, so that means it probably is. If the stools are softer, will there be less or no pain or bleeding? I bought some prunes today, so I'm hoping that will help.
What happens when I go to ther dr and have this checked out? I how no idea the tests or procudures they proform. Do I make an appt with my family practice dr or a specialist?
One more thing, is that much bleeding normal? I tried searching he inernet but found nothing.
Thank again!
Dawn
Hello Dawn,
Ok
I agree with Wren. The most irritating thing for hemorrhoids is hard bm's/straining.
As far as the blood --- please remember, when blood hits the water, it always looks like a lot more than there is (they teach us that in nursing school :)!!). It sounds like from your description that the amt of blood is normal.
If the prunes do not help, then perhaps some docusate/colace will help for a while so you don't irritate them. You can get these at the drug store without a prescription --- where they keep the laxatives. Docusate is a stool softener that works really well and is not habit forming (some people use laxatives all the time and then they become so they can't have a bm without them), but docusate does not fall under that category - they are good for short term use. However, the best thing is to get enough fiber through your diet to keep bm's soft and to drink plenty of water!!!!!
I agree with Wren as well, please make an appt. with a Dr. to have them checked out.
