I guess there is good news and bad news. The good news is I do not have ulcerative colitis or Crohns. The bad news is that I DO have diverticulosis and also that my intestines are very twisted. My doc said she had a hard time getting the scope through because they are so twisted and she suspects it is just how things settled into place after I had my hysterectomy.
I am not sure twisted intestines is something to be worried about or not. It sure doesn't sound good does it?
So I guess now I try to increase my fiber. This will be a challenge as I have lived on a low residue diet for over a year!! I guess I just go slowly.
I know most of you have no clue who I am because I pop in here very rarely but thought I'd share the results w/ those of you who will recognize me!
Any advice on dealing with this disease is welcome. I read all I could find on ulcerative colitis because I was sure that is what I had. I am in the dark about diverticulosis. But I am getting an education fairly quickly.

Hi and its Wonderful having you here..
Well I think once you get your fiber up to par and you go to the bathroom
Hello!
I'm glad that all went well with your colonoscopy and even though I'm not an expert on the subject it sounds like the results found are the lesser of two evils. I hope you can find some some info and advice about the twisted intestines - I was just told I had a thickened appendix (seen in an abdominal CT scan) and it is almost impossible to find anything about your appendix other than inflammation and they say mine is not inflammed just enlarged. Saw a surgeon and need to have another scan and exam in 3 months.
Anyway I wish you luck with the high fiber diet. I'm was told to do that as well - I have GERD (healing erosive esophagitis) and IBS. One very important thing that I've read about increasing your fiber is to do it gradually and to also increase your water intake. I was hoping to increase it naturally (i.e. with fruits, veggies and whole wheat bread etc) but I'm finding it very hard to get the full amount everyday so I'm thinking of trying a fiber supplement. I was hoping not to but I guess that's the best way. It is so confusing to know which brand to try. Perhaps we can share any info we come up.
I've included a few links below to sites that might be helpful to you
Well do take care and I hope to chat again.

:)
I recently bookmarked these websites after my husband's colonscopy showed early mild diverticulosis:
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/diverticulosis/
http://www.aboutibs.org/Publications/diverticula.html
This is a great website for IBS but it might help you witrh the fiber questions

Thanks Sue and Wren! I appreciate your feedback.
I baked a big batch of bran muffins last night. I'll eat one per day to start with. I also found it will be nearly impossible to get 20-35 gms of fiber from food alone, so I use Shaklee Fiber Crunch which can be sprinkled on cereal, yogurt, whatever, or baked in stuff or eaten just plain (and it actually tastes good!). and of course the old standby of Benefiber is in my cupboard. But I am going EASY and slow because I have been on a low residue diet for a year. (virtually ZERO fiber).
The twisted intestine thing does bother me. I hope I don't develop a blockage. I need to schedule a chat with my doctor because frankly I remember NOTHING about what she told me after the procedure cause I was pretty zombied out.
Thanks for the links. Where oh where is Lynn these days? I hope she wasn't hit by the hurricane.
