I just started college, and between that and work I'm definitely stressed. But i've been stressed before all while juggling between the two, and never had i ever felt so sick. I've always had nausea that would come about at random times for no apparent reason, and I would never actually be sick. Just severely nauseous. But lately it's been persisting for 3-4 days. Back in March I went to the gastro for the first time because I was just tired of always feeling ill. He asked questions and said my neurological exam was normal, and a rectal exam which was normal and then ordered an ultrasound and blood test. The blood test came back normal and nothing on the ultrasound. Recently I heard about someone who's on the pill Nexium which is supposed to get rid of acid reflux. I was thinking maybe I had that, but I never feel burning in my esophogus. ALSO- to mention, my nausea is never in my stomach, I never feel it there, it's always in my throat which I find weird. I get dry mouth and my throat feels like its kind of closed or blocked off (i'm still able to breath fine though) kind of like a lump in my throat that makes me feel sick. It's hard for me to get sick..like i'm scared or something and just can't come to mind to do it. The gastro said that if I ever chose to, I could go and do the endoscopy procedure where they sick the cam down your throat and what not, but I cant do that either. I'll gag! I just cant take it anymore. I want to know if there's anyone else out there who can relate with me somehow, share tips, how to get rid of nausea, what their docs say, etc..I really dont know what to do anymore. Please help!
oh p.s.- I've been on the generic prescription of Zantac..it worked for about 30 days and I was nauseous again, and now I usually take pepto bismol and a dramamine to feel somewhat better.

Hi and Welcome
Once you get a check up
Hello
It really stinks when you feel lousy and they can't figure what is going on.
In regards to the endoscopy --- they give you medications that #1 give you a kind of 1/2 awake amnesia and #2 relax the muscles. They also give a spray that numbs the whole back of the mouth which really stops the gag reflex. Most people aren't even really aware that they are having the procedure done. So it might be a good idea to talk more with the gastro dr. about it.
Both my daughter and I have reflux and we both have completely different symptoms --- mine is basically I feel like I am having a heart attack and hers is more of a lump in the back of her throat with nauseasness as well along with minimal heart burn.
Did they suggest an upper gi --- where you just have to drink the barium at all, that is how generally Gerd is diagnosed. That may be another avenue they could explore.
If you try the peppermint and it gets worse ---- peppermint can cause indigestion in some people --- so that may be something to note down.
Keep us updated.

Pretty2196,
Try to take one day at a time and
Hey,
A few years ago I had the same problem. I was just nauseus all the time. After several pregnancy tests, I had a GI swallow (with the nasty barrium) and the upper endoscopy (it was fine, they put me under, so there is no issue with gagging) they found nothing wrong. Around this time I developed IBS-D. Eventually, my GI put me on amytytiline, an antidpressent which at low levels (5-10x less than anti-depressant levels) helps with nausea. After gaining 20 lbs, I stopped the amytriptylene (which worked fabuously!) and the nausea never came back. Ginger and peppermint never really worked for me, though I hear they are great for others.
Currently, I am on Lotronex for my IBS, and managed to lose the 20 lbs, which was harder that I could ever imagine!
