Hi. My name is Katie, I'm 23 years old, and I was diagnosed with Crohn's 3 months ago. In the past 2 months, I have had 2 incision and drainage of abscess surgeries, for abscesses connected to a fistula. My colorectal surgeon, (his bedside manner is horrible and he failed to tell me to take 12 inches of packing out of my incision and to keep my incision open) told me to keep my incision open and draining by wetting a Q-Tip and having my boyfriend pull it back open daily. has anyone else heard of doing this/done this themselves? It seems a little low-tech to me, and since he failed to tell me to do it right after surgery and actually ripped it back open again a week after surgery in his office with no anesthesia and no warning, I don't particularly trust him. Sorry for the rambling. Thank you in advance to anyone with any advice.

Hi. Thanks for your response. He is horrible. Unfortunately, he is the only colorectal surgeon in town, besides his two associates in his office. But in a week, I am flying to my hometown of Atlanta and seeing supposedly the top colorectal surgeon there. What's really bad is that I did take my boyfriend with me to my last appointment, and my current surgeon did all these bad things (ripping into me, treating me like I was whining when I was asking questions about recovery time) WITH my boyfriend in the room the whole time. So apparently nothing works to make him act better. Thanks for your advice and kindness. I'm glad another IBD-experienced person thinks he sounds awful, too.
Thanks again,
Katie
