Post GB surgery diet

I finally had my GB out on Wednesday. Spent a few very sore days in bed, but I woke up feeling good today. No tightness, no soreness. Hopefully I can stop the pain meds today. And I finally have an appetite.
So my question for those who have been through this - how soon did you go back to "normal" foods? Like a lot of people here, my surgeon did not stick around long enough to talk about a diet and I'm not seeing him for 2 weeks. So far it's been a lot of juice, oatmeal and applesauce. I haven't had any nausea or cramps after eating, but it's been very low-fat so I know that could change.
If some people could just explain how they handled the post-surgery diet and how quickly they got back on track with a typical meal, that'd be great.

Hi
Hi Yebo - to be quite honest my doctor and surgeon were really not that helpful on the diet advice. I learned more from others on line and from a Naturopath.
Based on my experience and what I've heard from others I'd say introduce regular food slowly and see how you react.
I didn't avoid solid foods - but I did stick to a very low fat diet for quite a while - and 2 years latter I still have to watch what I eat.
Everyone reacts differently - a former co-worker was eating burgers the week after her surgery. I don't think I've had a burger since pre-GB days (2002!) and even thinking about one makes me nauseated.
Best of luck and please let us know how things are going,
Jo

Just
Hello,
I am one of the Donna's that had GB surgery. I had mine removed in March due to polyps and inflammation.
I agree with the others. Try and stick to a low fat diet for a while until your body gets use to working without a GB. Then SLOWLY introduce other foods. I made the mistake of eating a few french fries a couple days after surgery and oh boy! I had nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea (in that order) for the rest of the day. I am one of the unlucky ones that can not eat fatty foods without experiencing some sort of digestive problem...whether it be cramping, bloating, nausea, diarrhea or weird pains coming from somewhere. Some people can live perfectly fine without the GB (like my mom--who can eat burgers, fried chicken, tacos, etc. with no problems) and then there's ones like me who can't even look at a piece of chicken without feeling nauseous. I guess in a way, that makes me healthier ;o)
Glad to hear your surgery went ok and your recovering well.
