can someone tell me when...

I will start to feel better?

I have what the doctor's think is gastritis...went on Prilosec, but stopped because I was feeling worse with it.
Started Zantac twice a day on Monday, and started to feel pretty good, until today...nausea is back, feeling full, no appetite, again...

Please help me. No one seems to be able to give me an answer and I'm at my wits end with this.
I'm frustrated with the nausea, done everything possible-chamomille tea, peppermint tea, small meals, bland diet...

If you have any experience with gastritis, please give me some insight...

I have a barium swallow test scheduled for Wed...

Thank you for any help. I just want some answers.

Thanks

Donna,

But you do have days when you feel better right?

I have had 2 great days, went out last night, and ate a little more than I should have, and I was nauseous all night again.

I guess I need to let this heal before i figure out what and how to eat.

I have the endoscopy on Tuesday...I hope it's ok.

Thanks again.

Yes, I do have good days now--more then bad. If you were to ask me about 8 months ago it would have been the opposite. The times I have bad days are when I "sneak" the bad foods like tacos, burgers, and chocolate. I am avoiding those as much as possible while my stomach is healing--and believe me I am a TOTAL chocolate addict!!
Good Luck on your endoscopy and let us know how it goes!

Thanks Donna,

It's so refreshing to hear that you do get back to some sort of life without nausea...

I was just wondering, do you think the Zantac could be causing the nausea?
I know anything is possible with meds, and I happen to be allergic to many of them ( 3 antibiotics,& Motrin), do you think it's possible?

Has anyone ever heard of that?

I'm getting so worried about this test tomorrow.

I'm worried that they find something and I'm worried that they don't.

This is such a pain.

Thanks for letting me vent...kids are home for a 2 week vacation...and I think I'm starting to get anxious.

It is certainly a possibility that you could be allergic to Zantac. If that's the case then you can always switch to another PPI. I had to go through many before I found one that "agreed" with me. I found that Zantac had too many side effects and didn't work well. Aciphex just didn't help at all heartburn wise--although it didn't have any side effects for me. Protonix seems to be the right one so far--no side effects and that horrible heartburn is GONE!! The only thing I find is that some days it feels like I have a brick in my stomach--which I am guessing is due to lack of acid in the stomach.
Don't worry about the test! It's better to be safe then sorry (as the saying goes). I was shaking like a leaf when I had it done...but after it was over I was kicking myself because it was so easy. I would do it again if I had to. Also, they can usually tell you (or the person with you) what they seen the same day. The results of a biopsy may take a few days though.

Good Luck! And keep us posted on the results!

Thanks Donna,

I just want to know by now, you know?

Of course, a "friend" of mine asked if I were worried about stomach cancer... well, I wasn't, but I am now.

What side effects did you have from the Zantac?

I am thinking I need to change, I guess it's worth a shot, you know?

I mean, I don't have the terrible upper abdominal pain anymore, and if it weren't for the nausea and lack of appetite, I would be fine!

Thanks for the reassurance for tomorrow's test...the unknown is such a source of anxiety, you know?

The side effects I had with Zantac(I was taking 150 mg 2x a day--could have been too much?) were dizziness, "foggy head" feeling and abdominal cramps. I'm sure they would have eventually went away but I felt worse then before I started taking them so I didn't feel the need to suffer anymore!!
Yes, the unknown is always a source of anxiety for me. Even if it's something as simple as a blood test--I still get nervous. I do find that taking deep breaths helps with that "nervous" feeling (probably by taking my attention off of what is going on and concentrating on breathing). Maybe you could give that a try if you start to feel nervous.
It will be over before you know it.

Again, Good Luck!

Hi There!!

I just wanted to let you know that I've been going through something similar for quite some time now - I hate a hiatus hernia (it was diagnosed through my barium swallow test) and lately nothing has been helping....not diet, not pills - nothing!! The best thing I can tell you is: water - keep drinking tons of it and it eventually starts to calm things down...also something called Losec - I took this for about 1 and 1/2 year - and it was perfect! I could eat whatever I wanted...however I think I became immune to it....so nothing works for me now....but anyways, try the water trick and Losec (its a prescription)

Goodluck!!
