Upper right ab pain

Hello, I've been lurking for a while and have decided it's time to get my feet wet.

I've been having upper right rib pain off and on for a while (about a year with frequency getting more and more with time). My pain is mostly where the ribs begin to narrow towards the side. Sometimes I wouldn't even describe it as pain, but more like pressure. It seems to be deep and not near the surface. There was one morning about a month ago that I woke with a few stabbing pains in the area that passed within seconds, no episodes of that since. When I first started having these weird pains, I saw my doctor who had an abdominal CT done to look at the gallbladder and liver and everything looked fine. That was many months ago. Sometimes when I have the funny feeling and I press on it, it feels like what I would think a stomach ulcer would feel like and I can feel the pain right through to my back (towards the shoulder blade). What the heck could be going on here? I also should mention that my periods have been all out of whack since this started too. My gyno put me on birth control telling me something got me off track and 3 months of BC would get me back on track. Well that didn't work. Think there could be a connection between the two problems?

I am 35. I'm not over weight, eat a balanced diet and have been healthy my whole life. They did a blood teast (SED rate) and it was slightly elevated (27) at the same time they did the ultra sound, but the Dr. said it wasn't that high and if it had been in the 40s they would be concerned. I think it's time to see how I am now compared to the baseline info they now have on record for me. Thank you for the reply. I find boards like this to be very helpful.
