Hi, I have GERD and IBS and have had ulcers. Lately when I eat I start belching. Is there anything I can take? Sometimes it is quite embarrassing. Thanks

Hi, thank you. I talked to my dr about this today and he said "Everybody belchs." I said"But after just one little drink of water?" He gave me some medicine Reglan I think. I didn't have time to get it filled today. If it doesn't help, I have to call him.

I will definitely check out that link. Thank you.

Hello Pentin!

I also have GERD and IBS and a hiatal hernia and they saw erosive esophagitis on my endoscopy and I know how annoying the belching can be. It's awful and I burp worse than my husband! I don't have any great ideas but I have had some luck sometimes with GasX. And sometimes when I'm so uncomfortable I have my husband pat me on the back (like you burp a baby) to help get it out.

Are you following a GERD diet? And do you watch what you eat fo your ibs? I do and it has helped get rid of some of my worse pain and symptoms but sometimes it is no help.

One warning: Before you take the Reglan, please read all about it. It has some very powerful side effects. My GI doc gave me a prescription foe it in November and I did not fill it. He told me that he only had 2 patients that ever experienced them but he had to warn me. I then looked it up and read some other message boards and decided not to try it.

Hope you get some relief!

Thank you. I always read the side effects. I don't think I am going to take it. Because of my swallowing problems, I usually just eat what I easily can - pretty much the same things. I use GasX a lot. The belching is a fairly new thing but it is annoying and embarrassing, especially at work. Maybe instead of the reglan, I will try taking GasX before I eat and see if that helps. Thank you.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will certainly give them a try.
I don't smoke, chew gum , eat hard candy or drink beer. I don't drink much soda but I do often use a straw. I have some Beano and papaya enzyme on hand so I can try those right away.

Hi I am new here this is my first posting but I just wanted to share some info with you about a new product we have here in New Zealand so don't know if it is over your way. It is called "Activate" made by Meadow Fresh. it is a daily probiotic boost drinking yoghurt that helps with digestive systems and energy levels as it has vitamins in it. it comes as a 4pk of 100ml bottles and I take 1 a day and have found it has helped heaps. I suffer from IBS and a few months back it was so bad for 2 weeks, no matter what I ate or drank I would end up with stomach craps and the wind was horrific so I started on this stuff and I have not had one bout of IBS since. I am more regular with bowel motions now and the wind is settled too. I could lye on the couch and here by stomach growling something terrible, its no where as bad now. I still watch what I eat have always had to but its crazy as sometimes I can eat things like cheese or fish & chips and they will not affect me and then other times I pay for it. I was getting so bloated that I looked like I was about 7 months pregnant, that has gone too now. Unfortunately with these things everyone is different in how they find relief and just because this works for me it is not a guarantee that it will work for everyone but if the product is available I say give it a go as you never no. All the best.

Thanks so much. I don't know if we have activate or not but I will look for it. We do have a yogurt called Activa which is supposed to help digestive problems. I have been meaning to try it. Thanks again

Only too happy to help, I hope it works for you like it has for me. There are also some tablets called Immune Health which they say has alot more stuff in them than the drinking yoghurt but even though this Activate works out to be quite expensive it is working and I aint guna jink it.. It is suppose to be the live cultures in it that puts the good bacteria back into your system to help fight the bad so I don't see how a tablet can have a live culture in it. Anyway good luck and if you do end up trying it please let me know how u get on.... All the best..
