Hi,
I was hospitalized in Dec. 2005 w/ Diverticulitis. I have never had it before, (I'm 47) it came out of nowhere! One afternoon I started having bad abdominal pain and diarrhea and ended up in the ER the next morning. I had a colonoscopy in mid 2004 and the report said "no diverticula". I asked my primary care doc (the one that saw me in the hospital) if the diverticula could form that fast and she said no. Have any of you ever heard of this happening? How could the Gastroenterologist have missed it? It was quite painful and I DO NOT want to go through that again!!!
TIA

Hi mhoneybee!!
Welcome to the board!
Hi Tia, sorry you had to go through that! I was just diagnosed with diverticulosis last week after a barium xray and was shocked since I am only in my mid-30s. I had the same procedure done 5 years ago and had none. I guess no test is perfect? Are you trying to stay on a high fiber diet and exercising?
Vicki
Hi,
I have made some dietary changes but still trying to psych myself up to exercise!!
I'm eating more fiber, less junk food and NO nuts or popcorn! I never did eat a lot of nuts or popcorn, that's another fact that puzzles me.
I hope you're getting enough fiber, trust me, you don't want that experience. At least you know that it's a possibility.....I had no idea.
Take care,
~M
Hi, me too! I have switched to brown rice, wheat pasta (already ate wheat bread) and even bought some fiber candy and wafers. I think I overdid the fiber one day though, so be careful and do it gradually over a month or two. I heard to also watch out for any kind of seed (sesame seeds, pomegrante seeds, etc). I am also like you, I never ate alot of nuts and am pretty regular so I asked my dr why and why in my 30s and he said genetics. My mom had diverticulitis in her 50s. I just got a piece of exercise equipment, so this weekend starts my exercising (yuk).
TAKE CARE!
