Hey Lynn....Just wanted to pop in with a medical question for ya! Did they merge the IBS board with this one?

Ok, here's my question. I recently had a CT scan done due to suspicion of a kidney stone. I've been having pretty severe (at times) back pain. The CT results came back and under the part where it shows the results for the pelvis it say "multiple fluid filled loops of bowel." When I do a search for that term all I get is pages about bowel obstruction. I have sought out different opinions, one dr. says it's normal, the other says I need to see a GI specialist. Have you ever heard that term?

Thanks Lynn!! Nice to see ya again!

Hi Mandy,

I'm not Lynn and don't have an answer for you but do have a suggestion that you go see the GI doc to confirm what it really is and if you need to worry. Since there is not a consensus from the two doctors then I'd want to know more. Be forewarned that these scans do pick up lots of "stuff".

Something similar happened to me - Ct scan last summer showed what they thought was perhaps an inflammed thickened appendix so GI doc sent me to a surgeon who said lets check it in 3 months since I had no symptons of appendicitis. Repeat CT in October showed appendix okay ( and what they originally suspected to be the appendix was part of my bowel with barium in it) but now they saw a lesion on my liver that had atypical characteristics for a benign lesion so an MRI was ordered. It too showed the lesion was indeterminate so I just had to have another MRI which also was inconclusive. So now I'm scheduled for another MRI in 6 months. It did not change size so tht is good but they still can't tell me what it is so I am signing up for the repeat MRI. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Take Care!
Sue

Hey Lynn! Thanks for the advice! I'm not doing any boards anymore...it just got to be too much for me with work and school. It's snowing here today!! We've gotten an inch so far!

The weird thing about the CT scan is that I called my GI doctor's office who is not in until March and the nurse said she consulted with another doctor there and she said that the fluid filled loops sounds normal (she didn't see the CT scan, just the report). My main concern is if that is normal or not. I mean the urologist said that it wasn't...but then again, he's not a GI specialist. I've got an appt in March with my GI doctor to review the CT scan.

As far as symptoms go...I am having bad back pain. My bathroom habits are a little different. Instead of being regular and actually going everyday, I go every other day, which isn't that bad. The back pain is my main concern. Can constipation cause back pain?

The pain started a few weeks ago...and hasn't gone away. When I do a search online for "fluid filled loops of bowel" I see partial obstruction articles, which is beginning to worry me a little.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to have to stop by more often!

Mandy
