Thanks for thinking of me. Still reading here. I visited the cardiologist last week and had a stress test done. Waiting on those results, but since I didn't notice anything odd during the test, I suspect my heart's fine, right? So the bout of chest pain I had (I'm sure it was distinctly different from the heartburn pain) is really baffling.

As far as the heartburn and other symptoms are concerned, I am not winning the war, yet. I'm going to start adding the Carafate today. That's supposed to coat my stomach and is in addition to the Prevacid. I'm documenting what I eat, but no longer being so restrictive b/c 1) the doctor told me to eat what I want and 2) it doesn't seem there's any correlation at all and 3) I'm hardly one of those happy to lose weight. I'm terrified of losing any more. I'd just like to figure out what's causing it so I can make it all stop. However, if it's due to stress, I'm in a world of trouble. Don't know how to fix that one. :-(

How long should I "wait for the med to kick in" to tell if these drugs are working or not? I mean, the docs have switched my meds on average every 1 to 2 weeks. How long have you waited for a new drug to work before giving up on it. I'm confused but following their directions in the interim.

I'm really curious to know how ariesgirl26 is doing b/c of her chest pain accompanied by other symptoms.

Hey! The dr still thinks it's IBS. I've decided to try a gluten-free diet and probiotics. I've been taking them for 2 days now and I seem to be feeling better. I'll let you know in a few weeks if it's working.

appreciate the thoughts too. I haven't yet been to the DR yet, my appt isn't till the 22 but in the mean time I've been keeping track of every thing I've eaten and what times and my BM. I've stopped drinking milk before noon and after five. My problems I believe are because I may have an intolerance to milk products. I cut out dairy on Tuesday and wednesday and had no pain or cramps, no diarhhea, I oculd concentrate in class again which is great cause there's a major exam coming up in a week. On Thursday I had a small bit of yogurt for lunch and after classes I had about half a glass of milk with a PB sandwhich, I had a bit of cramping but not as severe as it had been and on Friday I only had 1/2 cup milk around 2. So I think it's dairy in the morning and evening I just can't digest properly. I'm going gracery shopping in a bit so I'm going to pick up some soy milk or lactaid. I'm going to hold of on lactaid pills until my dr confirms that it is an intolerance. It's been great though being able to get through the day without running to the bathroom or doubled over in pain from cramps. Oh, and I tried that smoothie recipe with bananas, pineapple, blueberries and stuff, I've been drinking it in the morning for breakfasts, it's very refreshing, and tasty considering I don't like ginger but thought I'd give it a try with everything else in there. I also suggested it to my mom who has IBS, she hasn't gotten back to me if it's helped her symptoms at all though. I'll post back when I hear from the doctor on wednesday

Little bit of an update.

Here we go again...

Just when I think things are getting better, (ability to eat more, bowel movements increasing, heartburn pain lessened) I've felt horrible (heartburn increasing in intensity) all weekend. I thought things were better but don't know if the Carafate is simply masking the burn that's still occuring or what.

My stress test at the cardiologist's came out fine. Don't know what it is that could be causing this. Thought I had an appointment for tomorrow but checked and it's on Friday instead. :-(

So there's gas, bloating (comes & goes,) 2 episodes of chest pain, less frequent bowel movements and the feeling that I have to have one for several days until it happens, burning in the chest constant but in varying intensities, belching, no correlation to diet it seems, resistant to treatment (Prevacid, Carafate, Protonix, AcipHex, 2 days of Reglan, Prilosec) & general all over ill feeling which began November 28 of last year.

~K (wanting a diagnosis, the ill feeling to stop, and no more medical bills, please)
