I'm writing about my sister who is having a series of problems with her stomach. She has been to one doctor who told her it was IBS due to stress, but did no tests and told her to come back in a couple of months if the pain got worse..She'd give her a pain medication if she still had pain. Again, no tests. She does have an appointment coming up Monday, but my mother is desperate to get her help. She's leaning towards some sort of intolerance. Here are a list of symptoms:
-Increasing abdominal pain
-Extreme nausea
-Frequent and severe headaches
-A dry, itchy rash
-Unexplained weight loss (20lbs in 6 weeks)
-Mouth ulcers
-Hand tremors
-Lack of concentration
-Bloating after eating
-Extreme fatigue
-Flu-like symptoms
-Chest pains
My sister is only 16 and this started in the last year. She is lactose intolerant, so she doesn't have dairy products at all. She had been eating a lot of soy products. During the summer was the only time she felt better because she ate lots of fruits and vegetables. Like I said before, the doctor she went to did nothing for her and told her to come back for pain medication if the pain didn't go away. The poor child is miserable. She is behind on her school work because of this. My mom asked me to come here to see if anyone here could help.
Thank you in advance!

IBS is supposed to be diagnosed after tests are run and other ailments are ruled out. I'm surprised and angered that the Doctor sis not run any tests on your sister.
Your Mom needs to be assertive with the doctor and demand that some tests be run.
I'm not an expert nor do I have any experience with it but I would look at the possibility that your sister has celiac diseas/ gluten intolerance. Here's a link for info about it:

Good Luck!
Jenni,
Hi and Welcome to the board.
Hi Jennie - welcome to the board. I'm sorry that your sister isn't doing well.
That much of a weight loss in a short time is very worrysome - is the doctor aware of it?
I don't have anything to add to what the other ladies have all ready said.
Please have your mom call the doctor Monday - and let us know how your sister is doing,
Jo
