scared of colon cancer

I am 39 and have a sensitive stomach... I can get severe cramps from food
I also get constipation or diarrhea. I have had this for many years but I am older and worry about colon cancer. I do see blood sometimes in my stool, i know i have hemorrhoids. I told my regular md but he seems to think it is IBS. I have a rx for reglan.
(sorry to much information) but my stools feel stuck.
what test can be done besides a colonoscopy? I never had any testing done.

Hi Cindyapril!
Welcome to the board!
Thanks for responding,
I know I have hemms because i can see them and feel them, they itch
No, I do not have a fever but get gas, bloating, upset stomach. My bowels do not feel empty and sometimes when i have loose stools it still sometimes hard to get out( what could cause that?
I have had this for years and have not gone to a GI specialist. I know colon cancer increases with age and i am trying to have another baby. I have already done my pap last week and a vaginal ultrasound( because I told my ob/gyn i have severe cramps)I am getting my first mammogram in April. I need to tell my primary MD that i would like to see a GI specialist.
There is another test called a Fecal Occult Blood Test(FOBT). It is a stool sample you do at home and then send to a lab to be tested for hidden blood in the stools (which is a symptom of colon cancer). It is an easy test--although smelly ;o) I had this test due to digestive issues and a family history of colon cancer. If it comes back positive then you will likely have to have a colonoscopy anyways which is a better way of detecting colon cancer.
