Have any of you had a HIDA scan?

Hello again.

I had my HIDA scan on Friday. I had a wonderful technician - she was very nice and explained everything to me in detail. I got to watch Pirates of the Caribbean while laying there and waiting for things for flow. ;-)

The technician whispered to me when the test was over that the ejection fraction test came back at 28% and anything below 35% signifies that the gallbladder is not functioning properly. I haven't heard back from my doctor yet, but the test was on a Friday so that is not surprising. I suspect I will hear from him on Monday.

I didn't realize that the test would leave me feeling so ... icky. Has anyone else had a HIDA scan? What reaction did you have? How long did you not feel well after the test? It's Saturday night now and I've spent most of the day in bed nauseaus and dizzy. Is that normal to be feeling bad this long afterwards? I'm unsure if this is from the test or just more crud that I've been experiencing.

If you did have a HIDA scan - what was your score and what was the course of action that your doctor took? I am hoping that we have finally found the answers we have been looking for and that this score indicates something with my gall bladder is causing all this pain and misery.

Thanks for your feedback.

Hi again Pam. Wow, sounds like you had a pleasant scan and great tech. I wasnt soo lucky, mine didnt speak to me and I had to lay staring at the blank ceiling for two hours.

Sorry you feel soo icky afterwards, I did not have any reaction other than being tired and hungry.

I got my results from my dr a day or two later, and mine is only functioning at 30% so they recommended I have it taken out. I have seen two other drs and the surgeon since, and they ran other tests as well but could not find anything else that could be causing my pain so I am scheduled to have it out in two weeks.

Good luck!
