Gall bladder? Or what??

Hi! Newbie here. About eight weeks ago, I caught a stomach virus that my son brought home from school. We all had it one after the other, my DH, DS, and DD. Although I "recovered", I haven't been the same since. About two weeks later, I was getting a sharp pain in my upper abdomen just below my ribs. The pain was sharp and shot through to my back. That ended after a couple of days, but since then, I've had a bloated feeling constantly. It's worse after I eat and I still get pain in my upper back, usually to the right. The way I would describe it is like a water balloon in my upper abdomen. I'm very uncomfortable to say the least.
My symptoms sounded like gall bladder to the doctor, so he sent me for an ultrasound, which showed nothing! It was such a surprise because I've had all symptoms that I've read about with gall bladder: location of pain, gas, bloating, back pain, etc. They also checked all of the other organs as well. I'm due to go for bloodwork so perhaps something will show then.
Meanwhile, the strange thing is that since this virus back in mid-January, both my kids have been sick about four times each, with vomiting and diarrea. My possible "gall bladder" problem got a little better, then a few days ago, got worse again. Coincidently, my dd starting vomiting two days after I started feeling bad again. My big question, since the ultrasound showed nothing on me, is: is it possible that we've all had some sort of virus that has lasted for weeks and weeks? AND how reliable is an ultrasound? I was sure not to eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to the test so as to not block the "view".
Any input would be appreciated! Thanks so much,
Cheryl

Have them run some more tests.
