Hi, sorry I haven't checked in lately...thanks for all you do on the board.
How are you doing? I know I probably forget to ask when I'm going on about my own problems...
So just a short update from here...I've sunken into some major depression, but am trying to study for exams (which are next week!). I got a bad evaluation recently about my apprehensiveness and anxiety in a patient session...so with that and everything else (I've always had social anxiety), I'm wondering if I should take a leave of absence from school or drop out for good. Sorry, I may have mentioned this before, I'm sorry.
Well, I guess that's not very stomach-related! But that's improved...I saw a new neurologist for my migraines, and she mentioned that the med I'm on can cause diarrhea, and that if things got much worse and I lost more weight, she might put me on a "fattening" migraine med, at least short-term. But I kind of doubt that's the cause.
But fortunately the awful diarrhea has much improved the past few days, knock on wood...though I still have many bowel movements a day, but at least not dehydrating ones, if you know what I mean (sorry)! I know you mentioned celiac disease, and I've begun to wonder if that could be playing a part...I've been trying to find which foods trigger the diarrhea, and now, the multigrain chips I sometimes snack on don't seem good for the gas and general stomach upset, at least...I think I rarely eat wheat, though...
Sorry this has gotten so long. But I've also been having some joint and pain problems lately, and my doctor mentioned there might be a possibility of inflammatory bowel disease associated with arthritis. I doubt it's anything that severe, since I've had "just" IBS for so long and don't have noticeable blood (except for a while back, which I thought was pseudomembranous colitis).
Oh well...but still, I've been eating more and more (though my appetite is still not good, and I keep having to go to the restroom after everything I eat), but still I seem to be losing weight! I was shocked this morning when I looked at the scale...I fully expected to have gained several pounds, but I'd lost one or two. It's getting a little scary...I think the last time I weighed this amount was when I was 12 or so!
Sorry, wow, this was not a short update as planned...as always, I go on and on...I'm just depressed and wanting to whine, lol...thanks for asking about everyone, and I hope you're doing well.
I had the colonoscopy on Monday. They also ran a scope down my throat, I can't remember the name of that test. They took biopsies of my stomach, colon, and instestine--will get that back on Thursday. So far the doctor said I have gastritis in my stomach--though I'm not sure of what that is because I was still quite sleepy when he came to see me. No polyps this time around--yeah! Many hemerroids inside which seems to have been the culprit of the GI bleed I had a few weeks back, though he didn't mention how to take care of those. Other than that, he said IBS is most likely the cause of the diarreha and he will give me Lomax (sp?) for that. But he wants to wait for the biopsies to come back to rule out infection.
I really liked this doctor. I found him to be a good listener and very caring. Yesterday I was very nauseaous so I went home from work early. The hospital called for their 24 check up call and asked me to call the doctor about the nausea. I did, and he got right on the phone, which impressed me. He said it was most likely from the prep, advised that I take a small dose of the pink stuff and to eat very lightly--no fiber- for a couple of days.
I am so glad its over. And thanks for lending an ear!
