So here's the deal....About two months ago I started trying to eat healthier in an effort to lose some winter weight. So I was eating a lot of salads, especially with spinach, mixed greens, etc, meaning I was also going to the bathroom about twice as often as normal (2 BMS aday when normally I'm one everyday/two days). Then about two weeks ago I started having itching on my anus. It would start about 30 minutes after I used the bathroom and on about the second day of it I had a little bleeding, but this was also after I'd been running for an hour. Well since then it hasn't gone away. I'm pretty sure its a hemorrhoid (my dad gets them pretty frequently) based on the symptoms and because I can actually see what looks like a bump, it isn't really hard and seems more like a skin tag. Since then I've had bleeding again two or three times, but never right after using the bathroom, usually a half an hour to an hour later. It itches most then, or if i'm doing something strenous, like lots of walking or running, and sometimes at night or when I first get up. But most of the day, if I haven't had a BM its fine. A week ago I cut down on the spinach a bit, thinking maybe frequency of BMS was the cause and also tried pepto-bismal to cut down on BMS-- in hindsight, this probably made things worse from what I've read, so I stopped that on last thursday. On Sunday I bought some preparation-H and have started using that, but I'm not sure if it's helping or not. Sometimes it seems to make things better, other times it doesn't seem to do any good at all. So anyway, I'm trying to keep up with the fiber, having an apple a day before bed and eating green leafy stuff, but as a college student my food choices are limited. Should I try a fiber supplement? Also, any other suggestions to help make it better, besides baths, since I only have a shower in the dorm? Any help would be appreciated, especially since I won't see the doctor until the end of May. Thanks.
PS- Should probably also mention that in the past I've had IBS symptoms, so things that would cause bloating or gas probably wouldn't help that much :(

HI and welcome aboard!
Wow, I can relate to how you are feeling with the itching.
but the BEST THING TO DO is to drink METAMUCIL THREE TIMES A DAY
for 12 yrs & up, mix 1 rounded teaspoon in 8oz of water you will be amazed
i had the surgury, an never never again. also warm sit baths is the best pain pill one could ever use instead of meds. my specility doctor told me metamicil is a must!
you will be in an out of the bathroom before you can read the front page news.
p.s after about a week if you have heartburn it will disapear as well good luck.
