HIDA scan and Breastfeeding

Has anyone had to have a HIDA scan while breastfeeding? I had my gall bladder removed 2 weeks ago, and an ENCP, stint put in 1 week ago. I left the hospital with a JP drain and when I went to have it removed yesterday, my doctor thought that the drain was still draining Bile, so he sent me to have a HIDA scan at the hospital. Throughout this whole ordeal I've been able to continue breastfeeding my 3 month old, but the tech at the HIDA scan said I would have no side affects from the radioactive tracer but I could't breastfeed until Saturday. Anyone know why? the tech seemed unsure and said saturday to be on the safe side. If she was off, how soon can I breastfeed? I don't want to lose my milk supply, but as a stay at home mom I don't have a pump and hand expression is very time consuming and difficult. Plus I'm home all day and she won't take a bottle from me

I would suggest that you call and speak to your OB-GYN and /or your child's doctor. Radioactive particles in your breast milk may be the reason to avoid breast feeding and I am surprised that the doctor that ordered the HIDA scan did not address this issue.

<I was told I wasn't to hold my son for the rest of the day after I had my scan done. He was only about 6 months old at the time. The technician said it had something to do with being radioactive?(I was picturing myself glowing green or something LOL)I would call your dr.just to make sure.

What did the doctor tell you?
