hiatal hernia

I had recently been dx with a hiatal hernia which my GI said was a incidental finding. I'm only 42 and last year had a polyp removed from my colon so he did a EGD to check for a polyp in my stomach. I didn't know you could get one there. I guess any cavity like sinuses or a cervix you can get one. I had a polyp in my cervix removed last year as well. Anyways, I didn't have any ulcers but my GI didn't do any culture or a biopsy for H.pylori. I've been on nexium and some other one that didn't really work great. I think otc one's work better but my question is, doesn't GI usually do a test for H. pylori if you have GERD. He told me that many people have it and it doesn't bother them just like the hiatal hernia. Also that the treatment is harsh to the body. Maybe I should seek another Dr. Oh, I also had u/s of gallbladder done too. It just seemed expensive to do all this even before doing the Helibactor pylori test. What do you all think.

All of the testing has ruled out many other possibilities, but I think getting tested for H. pylori is a good idea. Did your Dr. explain what is so harsh about taking antibiotics? If high doses are necessary, just be sure to take acidophilus to keep the 'yeastie boys' away.
Getting another opinion is a good idea and many insurers support doing this.

<Yes, acidophilus contains the 'friendly' bacteria that keeps things in check. Antibiotics can kill off the good flora and that is why yeast infections can happen.
