Pain from stones

OK, I don't know for sure if this works but a friend of mine told me that when she would have pain due to gallstones, she would somehow get on her head and stay like that until the pain left her. She had a stone the size of a golfball she said and everytime it blocked the bile duct, she would stand on her head. Thus causing the stone to move away from the duct. Now, I can not say from experience if this works or not and hopefully I won't have to. I have 2 weeks to go for my surgery and since my ER stint, I have had no further problems. SO, if any of you have any bouts of pain, try it and let the rest of us know if it works.

Thanks Elise. Actually, on Monday, I talked with the pre-op nurse and we chatted for a bit then on Tuesday, I went for my pre-op and the nurse there has relatives that work with me and we struck up a good conversation (again) and I spoke with her again yesterday and of course, we chatted. She had hers out and we talked about that. She made me feel more relaxed about the whole thing. She told me she was going to keep tabs on me and I am sure when she gets off shift tomorrow, she will be visiting me in my room. She is a living doll and I think she was "sent" to me to calm my nerves. Funny though, I was told by a friend that I would never go to the bathroom the same again.......OH yeah!!! Anyhow, I am feeling much better and I guess my nerves are not as sensitive about it. So, if all goes laparascopically, then I will be home Sat. and will be sure to log on.
Thanks again for your wishes, they are not unnoticed and very much appreciated.

Lots of hugs, prayers and positive vibes being sent your way Brenda!

That is great that you now have your own personal 'advocate' at the hospital. You'll be home and recovering in no time and I will be watching for an update.

I am home. Everything went well. I have five incisions not four. ? I had three stones he said and they were sludgy. Whatever that means. I was sick as a dog yesterday. Everything that went down, came up and boy did that hurt. Today is better and I could eat a house. Still tired and expect that for a few days. I am playing Queen and having some fun doing it. Actually, all three males in my house will do whatever I ask of them. So, just wanted to pop in and say hello. Can't sit here long. Be back tomorrow, I am sure.

Oh - take advantage of that as long as you can! I'd suspect if you are like most households it doesn't happen often.

Wishing you a smooth and quick recovery,

Jo

Doesn't it feel great to be home Brenda?

Take it very easy and allow those 3 males to wait on you! One thing that I always found helpful (many abdominal surgeries) is to support the surgical area with a pillow. If or when a cough or sneeze sneaks up on you, hug that pillow against yourself and the pain won't be as severe.

Visit when you feel up to it and keep us updated on how you are recovering. Each day will get a bit better, but you need to rest and allow your body to heal.

Good morning everyone. Feeling good here. Funny, I found a way to get up out of bed easy. I grab behind my knees and roll myself up. I guess all that time at the gym is to thank for the ease of that. A friend is making dinner for my family tonight. How appropriate since it is also my 13th anniversary today. Now I have to figure out how to get a card for hubby. Hmmmmm. Anyhow, I am almost to the point where I can walk upright. Still a little hunched over. I figure by tomorrow, I will be able to walk properly. I still will take a pain pill cause that will force me to nap later. For some reason, Percocet does that to me. So, now it is off to my chair for awhile. Have a good day...........

Hi Brenda, sounds like you are recovering nicely! I should have told you about the best way to get out of bed....always roll to the side (either one), put your legs over the edge of the bed and that will cause/help you to sit up. Holding a small pillow over the surgical area will add support and is especially helpful if you need to cough, sneeze, or even when sitting or standing upright.

Don't forget to be adding enough fiber to your diet, plus be sure to drink a lot of water. Taking Rx pain meds will constipate you and that is the last issue you need to deal with right now! Use the pain meds to keep you comfy and if they help with napping, that is another bonus.

Take it slow, rest often and visit and keep us updated as you are able. We are delighted to have you back and recovering!
