My commonlaw partner ( he is 31/ male) has suffered with crohns disease for over ten years now. He really struggles to gain weight and needs some advice on ways that he can gain weight and keep it on. He wants to eat healthy and stay away from fatty fast food, but not too sure how to do it. Anyway just wondering if anybody out there that either suffers or personally know someone who suffers from crohns disease have any ideas/tips/advice thanks.

Glad you found us! Your partner is lucky that you are so concerned and trying to find help for him. What has his doctor recommended? Here is some indo about an alternative nutritional method, but of course, a doctor needs to be involved.

Nutritional Therapy
There is no special "IBD diet". You may have to avoid certain foods which make symptoms worse. If symptoms are so severe that your nutritional intake or absorption is impaired, the doctor may recommend alternate feedings to rest the bowel.

Alternate feedings may take the form of a special low residue diet. Usual foods and liquids may be replaced by special formulas given through a tube going down from the nose into the stomach. This is called Enteral Nutrition or EN. TPN is a technique by which a patient may be fed intravenously. Patients with TPN or EN receive sufficient nutrients to allow for maintenance or gain of body weight. TPN is generally administered in the hospital although occasional patients receive it at home, usually at night. Patients on EN are managed at home and receive their feeds usually at night but sometimes day and night. All patients on nutritional therapy can function normally during the day.
