Hi There,
Last night I was eating filet migon (spelt right?).....It was so good and red.
I had 4 nice chunks, it was so soft, I ate it quickly.
Would you believe it took about an hour to go down. I was freaking - I couldn't relax.
I almost went to the hospital for an X-Ray it felt that bad. It felt like something was stuck right in the middle of my lower throat/chest - just awful! It felt like rocks trying to go down. It was sliding down every 5 minutes - it was probably spasms. What a scary thing! What is going on w/ me? it used to be 5 or 10 minutes for steak to go down and now I suffered an hour. Do I have reflux? I guess
I should tell my doctor what is going on when I go to my next physical in Oct.
Thanks for letting me vent. Laura/NJ

You say you ate quickly and 4 nice chunks. It sounds to me like you did not cut your pieces small enough. Hard to say not seeing it myself. Maybe you need to chew longer to break the food up into smaller pieces. But, I would most certainly tell your doctor about this. Does this happen with other meats as well, or just steaks?

Thanks for writing back, Brenda....
I get this every once in a while with some solid foods.....
steak, pizza, bagels, etc.....I have to be careful and eat
slow and smaller pieces, you are right.
I will tell my doctor this next time I see him. Thank you very much.
I'm 45.......I hate getting older. It's not fun!

He he..............DITTO................I'm 41 and I feel your pain.

Have you ever had your thyroid checked? I know sometimes, I have problems swallowing and it is a thyroid thing. Once I swallow though, I don't have problems with the rest.

Hi There,
Nope - Thyroid ok.
I ate the darn steak so fast last night - it was so nice and red and very soft.
I'll have to keep an eye on it. Did it ever take you an hour or longer for food to go down??? Once it went down, I felt like a new person again... I don't eat meat often, but I couldn't resist yesterday. It's always something lately. Nothing ever runs smoothly......I hate being in my 40's - 20's and 30's were fabulous. Oh, well....such is life. ~sigh~

Thank goodness Brenda was here to calm you down Laura...thanks Brenda!

You two seem to have figured out what happened...you ate too fast and didn't cut those pieces small enough. Sometimes we get so engrossed in the food that we forget the basics, like small pieces and chewing well.

If you guys are moaning now (in your 40's), wait until you reach MY age...let's just say I am in the next decade, OK? LOL

Since it has happened with other foods, you should mention this to your doctor, but try paying more attention to what foods are causing this and if eating slower and smaller bites help.
