IBS and Trigger Foods

I'm trying to keep a journal of what I'm eating to see what some trigger foods might be for my IBS. One thing confuses me though...if something is a trigger food then will you have symptoms (in my case diarrhea and cramping) soon after eating it or can it be many hours later?
I usually have tummy troubles in the mornings...could that be from something I ate at dinner?
Thanks for any help!

That is a very good question Anne. I feel that we are so highly individual that there cannot be one, standard answer. What sends my tummy into spasms immediately might not bother you at all, but something else probably 'stews' all night and has me rushing to the bathroom as soon as I wake up.
Add a column to your trigger list for how many hours before you noticed symptoms. You might find that certain foods don't always cause the same reaction and you may be able to pinpoint what was different from one time to another.
