Summer Stomach Distress

This weather is horrible, isn't it? Well, it is here. Today's heat incex rose above 110 again. So, it goes without saying that my stomach is suffering. It's been a struggle to eat. Even when my stomach is growling, I'm afraid that if I eat something, my stomach will be in worse shape. I've been eating like I'm on a crash diet. Today, I ate a section of turkey sub. I cut off about 4 inches, but I couldn't finish it. At 12:30 I ate a little less than half. Then I went to sleep. It's the only thing I can do to avoid my stomach trouble. Then I woke up about 2:50, and finished the sub. However, I found that i had to throw away the bread part. I just ate the meat. Now it's 6:40. I found something I can eat that won't mess with my stomach! Expensive chocolates. not that cheap kind, which means that I can't have Fast Break (I love those things) or even 3 Musketeers! I guess it's just the quality. I had two chocolates, and now I'm drinking warm green tea. I also had a Vault this morning. Well...my morning. 12-something. I didn't get to sleep until after 6am. I laid in bed for over 2 hours. I couldn't get to sleep. I've been having sleep problems for a long time now. It only gets worse in the summer. Maybe I should inform Disability. I could maybe get more out of it. I've had sleep problems for years, but now it's just gotten worse. But at least I found something I can eat. *sighs* Too bad, they're all gone. I'm thinking I should maybe visit WebMD.

I am not quite sure what reply you are looking for, please fill me in.
Many people tend to eat less during extreme heat, I know I am less hungry and nothing really appeals to me. I tend to eat more fruit and other foods that are cold. Today I kept getting pieces of watermelon to munch on. I buy a small one and cut the entire melon up and keep it in zipper type bags. Much easier to grab a piece or two that way.
What type of chocolate seems to agree with you? A bite here and there is fine, but I don't think you'll be getting much nutrition from a steady diet of that!
I find that eating smaller amounts throughout the day is easier on my stomach and is actually better for me. I probably 'snack' 5 to 6 times per day and am able to keep my weight where I want it to be and also seem to keep my energy levels up too. What do you expect to find at another site? I am curious since I am not sure what it is that you are looking for.

There's a difference between eating less and habitual starvation. Of course you're going to eat less when it's hot. But today I've had about 200 calories worth of food. My stomach's been in knots.I already have a stomach condition that I have to learn to live with, but this heat can make it unbearable. I can't eat fruits. I can't eat vegetables. I can't eat bread. I can't have any dairy. Of course I can't have things that are filling. I can't even eat rice! That's one of my favorite foods. If I eat smaller amounts through the day, my stomach will turn. Earlier today, I overheated and was forced to wrap a cold, wet towel around my abdomen. I've had to do this in the past, btw.
I probably snack two to three times a day. And I'll go four or more hours without anything. Two nights ago, I went for seven.
I should be better for the weekend at least. It's supposed to be a lot cooler. So I'm just going to try to eat a lot tomorrow and Sunday (well, a lot probably being "as normal as if it were mid-autumn, not mid-summer). Once the heat wave comes back, my appetite will plummet again. Sometimes I feel my stomach growl, but I'll ignore it. In this kind of heat, digestion is working against me, more than for me.

Are you able to drink fruit juices or vegetable juices (ie. V-8 , etc)?
"Are you able to drink fruit juices or vegetable juices (ie. V-8 , etc)? Can you consume soy products?"
I have to watch how much I have of these. I can get an upset stomach from them, but especially soy products. The make my stomach bloat the more! My condition isn't a life-threatening. It's just incredibly uncomfortable!
"Perhaps another visit to the dietician / nutritionalist is in order"
Another visit? Sorry. Never been to one of those. Just regular doctors.
Anyway, my real problem is that I can hardly tolerate heat. Check that! I can't tolerate heat. I have rich blood. I can hold my liquor. But I can get a hangover from heat exhaustion.l Body heat has always been a problem for me. Even when I was anorexic! (Yeah yeah, I know. It's a bad thing to do. But I was 15 years old!)

Hi Filiasan - I just thought that because of you are so limited to what you can eat because of a medical condition that your doctor would have sent you to one. It may be worth asking about.
I had an eating disorder when I was younger as well - I really think that it layed the foundation for many of the digestive problems I'm dealing with now.
Wishing you all the best,
Jo
I'm like Oprah when it comes to eating disorders. I've been through the three major ones (you know--anorexia, bulemia, and overeating), time and time again. I don't do it anymore now though because I just don't care about trying to date. I'm sick of that crock called love. But of course I'm suffering for what I did to my stomach.
Of course my major stomach issue is IBS. I'm bloated like a balloon. But, I'm actually slimmer in the winter than I am in the summer! It's partly because of the heat. After the heat drops, I bet so will my waistline.
