sphincter of oddi after GB surgery

Hello I am new here and I was wondering if anyone has had any problems after gallbladder surgery. I have only found a few sites that offer support on sphincter of oddi and pancreatitis. Would like to hear from others out there like me, suffering for over a year now. I could have a ERCP to maybe help things but right now I think the risk out weigh the benfits. They say this only happens to a handful of people after surgery, so I guess I am very unlucky. The pain is inbearable at times and as of now I am on percocets, vicodin, levbid, nexium, zoloft, and evavil. Thank you Shannon

Hello Shannon!

I wanted to offer a proper greeting, even though it is late (11:45 PM) and I need to get to bed. Please read some of the other posts, as this subject has come up. I will look into it more in the morning, but didn't want you to think no one 'was home'. lol

Here are a few articles I was able to locate this morning. My GB was removed in 1979 and no one ever suggested that my recurrent discomfort was anything more than 'all in my head'.

Hi , I also had my gall bladder removed about 3 yrs ago and was doing fine for a while. Then I began experiencing some odd and end symptoms. Lately I have been what feels like gallbladder attacks again. After researching for info , I discovered some info on the sphincter of oddi . I have not been tested as yet, but am presuming that is what the problem maybe. Dull achiness which gets very painful at time under right rib cage, nausea, diarhea and feeling unwell all over. My doc , I feel, thinks that I am some type of hypercondriac or something, and I am getting very upset with him. Living in a very remote area , there are no other docs around for miles and miles. Like you, after reading about some of the procedures for this, I am very leary about them. Don't know where I can find a good gastroenclogist, and will now have the doc in this area try any of it.
How are you doing with your symptoms and all? I am going to try to drastically do the very low fat diet and see how that works for me now. I am presuming whatever foods caused the original gallbladder attacks, also will cause these attacks. Fried , spicy and fatty foods. Have you found any others who are experiencing any of this? There is a pancreatis group on yahoo who seems to be very good. Try joining up with them. Lots of helpful advice, etc. Hope you are feeling much better now. Pat

Hello Pat,
Good to hear from you, I think you just joined a group on yahoo that I have been on for about a year and a half TPP ? I still have alot of pain, take my pain pills pretty much everyday now. Have you ever had any problem with take pain meds? I know before I started taking levbid that pain meds would make my attacks worse instead of helping. You can post to me on TPP, I read all the post everyday. Also its nice to join the chats on sundays ond wedesday nights at 8:00. Hope to talk to you again soon.
