pancreas thyroid iron def. anemia..help!

My 37 active healthy husband has been dignosed with iron deficiency anemia and hypothyroidism in the past year (he was diagnosed after being deferred twice from donating blood). He also developed high colesterol in the last 3 months. He had a capsule endoscopy a week ago and a endoscopy, ultrasound and biopsy of his small intestine yesterday. the biopsy will not be back for several days but the doctor said he did not see any signs of cancer. he did however find and inflammed and sore pancreas, swollen vessels in his esphogus (both signs of alcoholism in my nondrinking husband) and also a hiatal hernia and esphogial reflux. We are desperate to find a link between all of these symptoms. his pcp says none of his meds or problems would cause the pancreas problems, luckily he knows us well enough and long enough to vouch to the gastro doctors about the nondrinker status because the gastro doc certainly didn't believe me! Help! does anyone have similar problems? suggestions?

Thanks, it's just crazy that a young healthy guy can just keep getting diagnosed with one strange thing after another, i'm hoping that i will come across someone with a similar progression of symptoms to give us a clue what we should be looking for.

We have discovered an interesting link between asparteme in diet drinks and pancreatitis, hypothyroidism and iron deficiency anema, all things he's been diagnosed with. My husband has been a huge drinker of diet drinks for 17yrs. anyone know of a connection?
