Has anyone here ever tried the Specific Carbohydrate diet? http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/

I have heard of it over the years, but never knew what it was, really. But with all the problems I'm having caused by digestive system problems, I thought I should look at least look into it.

anyone?

No, I have never heard of this and tend to shy away from anything with the word 'diet' in it. Eating properly and in moderation seems to work for me, instead of something like this that may cause you to be missing nutrients.

I know what you mean about the word 'diet' but this is used in the traditional sense. In my case, eating properly and in moderation has not helped at all. In fact, I only developed my digestive problems in the last year - after many years of very healthy, proper eating habits. I think that is one of the reasons this has been so annoying for me. Everything they are now telling me to 'start' doing, I *have* been doing pretty much all my adult life. I'm at a loss as to what else I can do, which is why I'm investigating the possiblity of an allergy or intolerance I was unaware of, and that my body can no longer cope with.

In the SCD, The foods avoided are those that are most difficult for the human digestive system, and one should not be eating things that one is sensitve/intolerant/allergic to anyway. I know a few people who have used it with astounding results. It is something to hear women talk about such simple things as being able to take their kids to the park for the first time, just by avoiding foods that they were sensitive to. Unfortunately I am no longer in touch with them, which is why I thought of asking here.

Right now it all seems like a lot to take in, but, at the rate things are progressing - or I guess a better word is deteriorating - I think an open mind seems quite sensible.

Please keep us updated, I'll be watching to see what foods you might find are causing you problems. I know that for myself, I cannot tolerate some foods now that never used to create a problem.

I'm looking at everything right now. Early this year, I was fine - if anyone had asked I would have said digestion was the one area I'd never had a bit of trouble. Then at the beginning of April, I noticed pain and swelling on the left side. I've been through the rounds of tests, but the pain is always there. I don't have a clue what changed. I'm thinking right now of starting with something simpler - like a diary of food, acitivies, etc and pain level, see if there is any pattern. if anyone has suggestions, I'd be interested.

thanks,

A food diary is a good idea and adding activities and pain levels might help you see a pattern. Here are a few more articles that might be helpful...
