Hi new here and have a tummy problem

Hello my name is Kristina and I am 19 years old. Yesterday I spent the day in the emergency waiting for the doctor to find out what was wrong with my tummy.
I went in with complaints of gas, burping, constipation, pain and nausea. He gave me a shot of something for the pain, and a shot of gravol. At first I felt good, but then they had to get me to get up so I could go for and x-ray of my abdomen. The x-ray showed that I was literately full of... well you know. LOL. I still have to go for a scope to rule out that inflamitory of the bowel, I think its called colitis. The doctor thinks its IBS.
You know, it doesn't surprise me, I mean I know my older brother has it, and my mom may have had it. But apparently I have a really bad case of it right now. In a way I consider this stomach problem an blessing at the moment. I know that sounds weird because I am in pain and all. But this way, I know the doctors will keep an eye on me and really help make sure I don't get the 7cm tumor my mom has right now on her rectum. She was diagnosed at the end of June with Cancer, and will be starting her chemo and radiation this coming wednesday. She already has had one surgery done to re-route her bowel so she goes poop in a bag now, the surgery is called and Illeostomy.
Okay, now back to why I am here. One, this is a new thing to me, having this stomach problem actually said what it probably is. I was reading that If in fact I do have IBS being lactose intolerant will make it worse, which is what I am.
The doctor said I should take Pariet to calm the acids in my stomach, and to take gravol to help the nausea. He also thought I should take something strong to help me have a good bowel movement. So my parents went to the pharmacist for me, and he said I should just keep taking the stool softners because if I do take an actuall cleanser, I could get hurt if I do have a blockage. So, here I am, drinking lots of water, unsure of what I can eat, and in bed waiting for nature to take its course. I did try moving around some this morning, but I did feel really sick and could not handle the nausea. So, I was wondering if anyone had any tips on what I could do at the moment. I know when I am finally cleaned out I have to see a dietician to learn what I need to eat that is high in fiber, and I want to get back to my regular excersise and all of that. But I was wondering on what I can do right now. I can't take T3 to help the pain because it only would constipate me. So if anyone had ANY advice, I would love to hear it because I am willing to try almost anything so I can feel normal again.
Thank you for letting me use some space here,
Kristina

Welcome Kristina!

Ouch, I am glad you've seen the doctor and hopefully are on your way to getting proper help.

I am sorry to hear about your Mom's Dx and will pray that she has a full recovery! Thank goodness you are getting the scrutiny that you need right now.

I am lactose intolerant and find that taking acidophilus daily helps keep my intestinal flora happy. I also take extra lactose enzymes when I know I might eat something 'bad' for me.

Because you are in Canada, some of the meds you've mentioned aren't available here, so you might not find some things we use here in the States. I do know that T3's are comparable to our pain pills with codeine, but we cannot buy them OTC, as you can.

So, here I am, drinking lots of water,

Getting enough water is always a good start!

unsure of what I can eat,

I am hesitant to suggest anything until nature has taken its course and of course, you do need to speak with your doctor!

and in bed waiting for nature to take its course. I did try moving around some this morning, but I did feel really sick and could not handle the nausea.

Moving around some is still good for you. Can you try getting up and walking around for short periods of time?

I wish I could suggest something, but like I already said, I am hesitant because you are under a doctor's care and need to follow his/her direction.

Hi I just thought I would let you know my stomach is doing a bit better. It's taking some time I will admit, and it can worry me. I am trying to eat things that are high in fiber and am drinking lots of water. I hope I can figure out my stomach before it really hurts me.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Kristina

Thanks for letting us know that you are feeling a bit better today Kristina. Keep doing whatever it is that seems to be helping. Are you planning to see your own doctor tomorrow?

Hi Elise, I hope to get in to see my dr as soon as possible. Earlier today I was feeling alright, but then as the day went by I started to feel a little more uncomfortable. I do hope to see the dr soon.
