I have stumbled across this board when I was googling ulcers. I have suffered from ulcers since I was 15 years old, and the only thing I can take that works is Zantac. I have tried nexium, prevacid, and the other one that I can not think of. None work. Just the Zantac. I suffer from migraines almost weekly, and take dailey meds for this.
Lately, I have been having sharp pains right under my sternum to the point that it is catching my breath when I breathe. I went to my doctor today, and he gave me another prescription to take along with the Zantac. I also got a pain killer prescription.
I am wondering if it is gallbladder. He said he is not doing an US until I try this medicine for a week. I go back next Tuesday. What are the symptoms of gallstones, and when does the surgeon remove it.
Thanks a bunch,
Kari

Glad you found us Kari, but sorry that pain was the catalyst!
Here is a link to a few articles about the gallbladder.

Another possibility is costochondritis, see if the symptoms mimic yours...

You didn't say if the pain was deeper and felt like an 'organ' pain, or if it might be in the ribcage. Your words " catching your breath when you breathe" made me think of costo because I've had it and breathing deeply is impossible. See what you think and bring this up to your doctor, if it might fit your symptoms.
Let us know what you learn either way, OK?
