I don't mean to be a nuisance but is there anyone out there that can please tell me if they've had a stomach ulcer, what it felt like and how it healed. Or acid reflux, how long did it take to heal. I'm depressed and going crazy!

I will post your message at the board that the CL's go to, when we need help. I cannot know when a member might show up to tell you the answers you need, but maybe some of my fellow CL's have had ulcers and can offer you some guidance.

<Good luck

My doctor thinks I have acid reflux and I've been on prevacid for 2 weeks but doesn't seem to be working. I don't know maybe I haven't given it enough time but I don't get heart burn or anything so then I wonder is it acid reflux or an ulcer or something. What I eat doesn't seem to matter, I can eat really good and have the dull ache in my upper stomach and back or I can eat McDonald's and eat fine. I worry something is terribly wrong with me!
I'm recovering from an ulcer. It was diagnosed the end of May. My main symptom was constant rumbling in my stomach, day or night, empty or full, but much worse after eating, gas, burping, and bloating (I looked about 6 mo pg) especially if I ate anything with bread, tomatoes or milk. I was also slightly dizzy and hypoglycemic and lost 8 pounds.
My doctor did a blood test and discovered an h pylori infection. I took two courses of antibiotics for that (they come in a 14 day pack of 8 pills a day). When I finished the last pack, I began nexium which I'll take until the symptoms are gone. I"m hoping to get off them soon.
My understanding is that there is more than one type of ulcer, and the symptoms are different for each. As someone below said, if you're in doubt, get a second opinion. It might ease your mind.
"The diet-heart idea (the notion that saturated fats and cholesterol cause heart disease) is the greatest scientific deception of our times. This idea has been repeatedly shown to be wrong, and yet, for complicated reasons of pride, profit and
My symptoms don't really sound like that. I'm seeing my family doctor again tomorrow so I'm going to ask a lot of questions. Another thing I didn't mention in the last post was I did have my gallbladder out 3 years ago so I don't know if this pain has anything to do with it. I haven't had any trouble since my gallbladder was out though.
Sorry you're feeling so poorly. I was first diagnosed with acid reflux (GERD) in 1999, although I've never had an ulcer. This was done by means of the 24 hr. PH test. Ever since that time I've been on one proton pump inhibitor med or another. Unfortunately, they recently all stopped working. With my last episode, I was having extremely bad burning anytime I ate ANYTHING-no matter how bland it was. My doctor put me on Protonix, which I had never tried. I was feeling a lot better in a matter of days. Sometimes it just takes trial and error. Good luck.

My father had a stomach ulcer, so did i and so did my teenage daughter. Sometimes it seems there's a genetic predisposition to it.
My ulcer pain felt like someone was sticking a knife into my stomach and twisting it. It was worse when my stomach was empty and sometimes the pain woke me in the middle of the night. Keeping crackers or something like that nearby helped. My doctor advised me to eat six small meals a day and to take Mylanta. The ulcer eventually healed up but sometimes i get flare-ups (once or twice a year) and that's usually if i'm stressed.
I know that people with stomach ulcers have to avoid aspirin and ibuprofen, and also caffeine and alcohol can irritate.
I hope you're feeling better soon.
