Hi,
I am new to this and have been suffering from IBS for about 6 months.I have flare ups about once a month then it is okay until next time.I suffer from the D.I have not gotten so far as to figure out which foods seem to aggravate it.It seems more of a stress issue with me.I am just curious if any of you who suffer have certain types or foods that you seem worse with. When I have my flare- ups I don't want to eat because I know what will happen. Thanks for the help!

The day got away from me and it is bedtime for me...I will either reply here, or send you an email in the morning about the lactose enzyme that helps me AND is inexpensive.
G'morning, I am back. I have found that the generic brand of Lactaid, a lactose enzyme that you can buy otc, works well for me. I buy mine at WalMart, but most drug and chain stores should carry a generic version as well. It is in the aisle near the stomach aids, like antacids, etc. Look for the Lactaid products and either try them, or the generic equivalent.

<Do you have any

<I meant to say that I personally completly avoid pork due to what I have learned, but I do not know about the facts reguarding the benefits of completly avoiding.
Thanks for returning to explain what you originally said. Many people come here and lurk and if they hadn't read the entire thread, they might see and think they need to fully avoid these foods.
It is important to reread what you are about to post, to make sure you aren't leaving a blanket statement that can be misunderstood.
Of course, if a person has had certain allergy testing done that shows that certain foods will cause a severe reaction, then they can say that they have to avoid something, but with an explanation as to why.

<I've had IBS since I was 15 (am turning 25 this year). So I guess you could say I've got alot of experience with 'safe' foods.
Foods that I avoid:
- Garlic
- Onions
- Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower (Sulphur-rich vegetables)
- White-flour products
- Chilli (the spice)
- Dried fruit
- Pork and bacon
- Any food high in fat: Takeaway foods can be particularly bad
Foods that help me:
- Wholemeal bread: Eating it as is settles my IBS
- Yogurt
- Gluten-free muesli
- Green tea
I also find exercising every day, especially yoga or pilates to be extremely beneficial.
I hope that you find these lists helpful :)
Good luck - and please remember that IBS sucks for everyone in these early stages, but it does get better (never exactly brilliant though!) as you learn your triggers.
And thanks for sharing your lists with us. Our members can see if any of your listed foods are triggers for them selves too.
I agree that some type of exercise is beneficial. I am not sure if the symptoms ever really lessen, but we do learn how to better live with them over time.
