Acid Reflux -- right diagnosis?

Background: My husband had abdominal discomfort, bloating symptoms that led to a gallbladder disesae diagnosis. He had his gallbladder removed about 2 years ago, but the symptoms have come back over time. He's never really described it as heartburn to me, but his doctor today said they are treating him as if he has acid reflux or a related problem. He's scheduled for an X-ray to get more info.
My concern is that his symptoms don't sound like acid reflux to me. They gave him a list of foods to avoid, which includes tea. He drinks tea every day practically. Could that really cause these symptoms?
I guess I just want reassurance that the doctors are looking at this problem seriously rather than just slapping him with the most common diagnosis. His discomfort often makes him uncomfortable for most of the day when they strike...I hate to see him in pain.

The only thing that came to me immediately is lactose intolerance...does your husband put milk/cream in his tea? I ask since you said he drinks it almost daily. I acquired it over the years; it isn't something you are necessarily born with. Have him try either lactose free milk, or if he eats a lot of dairy products buy lactose enzyme pills that are taken right before a meal. There are generics next to the name brand product (Lactaid) that work fine and cost a lot less.
