Hi,
I have a question, that I hope someone can help me with.
I have been having a dull pain in the rt upper part of my stomach. Right below my rt. rib. It doesn't happen a lot, but this time, it has been happening on and off for about 2 weeks. It last for a couple of hours, then it's gone? It's a dull, achly feeling.
I've also noticed that I have been having some bloatting, and yellowish, loose stool ( sorry for the tmi) when this happens.
I had something similar to this last year, with the stool, but never with the pain.
I had an endoscopy and abdominal us in Dec of 2005, and everything was normal.
I had a colonoscopy in July, and everything was normal except for proctitis ( which we knew-and I've been successfully treating it with Canasa supp's)
He said he saw some ulcers in my ilieum, but they wre biopsied and it wasn't Crohns.
so this brings me to my questions:
I'm going to the GI MD on Friday, and I was wondering if there are any things that I should ask him to do?
Anything that I should suggest?
Finally...and this is going to sound crazy, but do you think it could be any stomach cancer etc??
I say this because my 40 yr old DH was dx with colon ca this AUg. He had no symptoms at all, but I made him have the colonoscopy becasue just had one and it wasn't so bad, plus he had a grandmother that died from c c when she was 70... turned out he has cancer, so I['m a little sensitive now to it.
I know I'm being crazy, and I couldn't ask this of anyone because they would think I have lost my mind...just need some reassurance...and some reasoning.
Thanks,
J

Glad you found us J and certainly can understand your heightened sense of concern. I hope your DH is getting the best possible care and thank goodness you pushed him to get the colonoscopy!
Of course your symptoms could be stress related, because you have an abundance of stress right now, but it does sound possible that your gallbladder might be acting up. The GI doc should be able to determine what is going on with it. I honestly don't think this sounds like cancer, but you should mention your concern to the doctor on Friday. It isn't like you picked colon cancer out of thin air, your DH was just Dx'd with it!
Please visit anytime and let me know how the appointment goes on Friday. I am sending positive thoughts and prayers to both of you and hope you will keep us updated.

<Thanks Elise,
I'm certainly a bit sensitive to the whole cancer thing, I agree...it was a complete shock to us when they found the tumor...Threw my whole world upside down...
Anyway,he doesn't know what to think...
He saw some ulcers on my last colonoscopy,( July) but the pathology came back unremarkable for anything...So he went from thinking I had Crohn's, to saying " it's just some ulcers on your terminal ilieum"...
He said there was inflammtion in my colon ( colitis?), and maybe that's what this is...
Anyway, he wants me to have an upper GI series, with small bowel follow through on Monday.
What is that? I know I have to drink something, but does anyon eknow any more about it?
How long does it take? Is it uncomfortable? SIde effects???
THe scheduling lady had no idea... : (
So that's where I stand...after that test, depending on what they find or don't find, I have a CT scan for the following month...
Thanks for you concern...
J
Here is some info that might give you an idea of what is involved.

The scheduling person isn't usually too helpful, but that is because they schedule all types of tests and aren't really involved in the actual test you are having done.

<Thanks for the information...
I'll let you know how the test goes tomorrow...
Good luck, here's hoping everything goes smoothly, that your tests are done in a timely fashion and you get the results this week!

<I hope that all went well for your tests. I'm just reading your posts today and was wondering if they have ruled out gallbladder - that is often the cause of discomfort in the upper right area under the ribs. I'm sure they have - but just thought I'd mention it.
All the best,
Jo
ps - I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. My mom had surgery for colon cancer last year and she's doing very very well.
Jo,
First of all, I'm sorry about your Mom, but I'm glad she's doing well... My husband has his first of MANY ct scans, etc.... with the oncologist next month...we're pretty nervous, but praying that all will be well, and will stay that way for 5 years!!!
It's so funny that you said gallbladder, because that's what I think it is.
They did the upper gi with small bowel follow through, and I don't think that's the correct test for gallbladder?
They didn't do anything else...I did have an ultrasound last year, but I didn't have these symptoms then...
THe MD is calling me in a couple of days with the results, and I plan to tell him I need that checked...It sounds like it to me, I don't know why he hasn't done anything about it??
Thanks for asking, and collaborating with me on the gallbladder thing, I was JUST talking to my husband about it when I saw your post!!!
: )
