A Bloated Newbie.

Hi All,
I just wanted to see if any of you have ever experienced anything like what I'm dealing with. I've been to 3 different PCP's and none of them can seem to get to the bottom of it. They just give me a different pill.
A little background info. I'm 28 and have had my gallbladder out when I was 22. Ever since then I have had problems. They started out to be infrequent but are now becoming more frequent and more painful. Sometimes after I eat I get really bad cramps and I bloat. The one-day at work my stomach bloated so bad I went shopping at lunch time for a new pair of pants and it was two sizes larger than what I normally wear. I have noticed that I have problems with a lot of fruits, apples, bananas, kiwi, papaya, mango and pineapple. Some berries bother me like blueberries, but not strawberries. Raspberries, but not blackberries. The main vegetable that I can't have is corn. I am trying to eat healthier and loose about 10 pounds, which I've gained 40 since having my gallbladder removed. I was underweight then, but I'm now a little overweight. I don't typically get diarrhea just gas, cramps and bloating. I don't have any trouble going so I don't think I'm constipated. My doctor thought it was a food allergy and did a panel, but everything came back negative. Then they came up with this excuse that I'm reacting to the chemicals on the fruit that I can't wash completely off. I tried an exclusion diet, but it didn't give me a reason of why I get this way.
I was hoping that someone might have an idea of what this might be. I'm just a little uncomfortable b/c even though I can watch what I eat, it doesn't always work.
Thanks for listening to me ramble,
Chris

Glad you found us Chris! What you described sounds painful to me. Your frustration is understandable, especially since you are trying to eat healthy and this happens instead.
Have you bought and used one of the enzyme cleaners that is made for washing fruits and vegetables? Anything is possible and maybe you are extremely sensitive to whatever chemicals are on the produce you buy.

<Chris,
I visited ivillage to see if anyone was having problems similar to mine. Seems like you are a close fit. However, I haven't determined yet what foods bother me. I am currently on a yeast free diet - have you tried this? My doctor thinks that I might have an overgrowth of yeast in my gut most likely caused by the over use of antibiotics. I've used anitbiotics for years for acne. I've only been on this thirty day diet for four days and I already feel better.
I know what you mean about the pants not fitting. I literally have morning pants and evening pants because I am a full size bigger at night. I can have such terrible pains from the bloating that I cannot stand up straight - my shoulders and neck hurt.
If this is something that might help you just "google" yeast free diet or candida albicans. Note that I have never had a vaginal yeast infection or any infection in my mouth so don't think that these are always symptoms of this illness. It can pertain to just the intestinal tract.
Good luck - I sympathize with you!
Barb
Welcome and thanks for sharing your experience. Have you tried taking acidophilus daily? I buy and use a generic brand that is inexpensive and easy to take....I take 3 pills per day, morning, noon and night, every day. This helps keep my intestinal flora balanced and I have less of an issue with yeast overgrowth.

<I'm sorry for your hardships. The only things that have helped me are digestive enzymes and probiotics. Then again, I still have my gallbladder (even if it does seem to be acting up quite often). I have diarrhea quite a bit, but not as much since I started the digestive enzymes and probiotics.
I hope you find your answers.
