Hello-I had posted in late december about esophogus burning and saw the specialist today. He reviewed my history, felt my abdomen and prescribed aciphex-anyone familar with this? anyways, i go back in 5 weeks, and if i have not improved, then he wants to do an endoscopy. i was hoping to continue down a natural path with supplements etc, and have read that sometimes acid reflux is too liottle acid? so i am a little conflicted, but will do the meds to see what happens. i would appreciate any comments and suggestions!
thanks all-

Like you, I dislike taking Rx medications, but sometimes it is a necessary 'evil'. Here is some information that may help explain how Aciphex is supposed to work...

Hopefully it will allow the problem area to heal and then you can ask the doctor about more natural ways to keep this from reoccurring.

Thanks Elise-
My hope is just as you said....It is making me feel a little different and making my symptoms a little different, but I am going to try not to worry. The Dr wants to give it a full 5 weeks to see. I aqm curious why Docs rx one med as opposed to another, and he did mention if I had an ulcer, it would address that as well, yet did not mention an H.pyloru test. Thanks for the info and advice, your'e great! :)

I am not defending any Dr., but feel that part of the problem is that most are overworked and expected to see a certain number of patients per day, as directed by insurance companies. As a result, many Rx drugs are prescribed without the doctor fully knowing what things can be treated by it and that's why we need to be our own advocate. Drug reps push certain drugs and unfortunately, we end up being the guinea pigs, IMO. The site I provided you is one I use frequently, to find out exactly what a drug might do for me, what precautions are listed and the side effects I need to be aware of too.

Elise....I agree with you, and it's so hard because I have told myself, this Dr is a specialist, he would know what is best and what I most likely have right? I sure hope so. I pray this helps as I don't want to have an endoscopy...I appreciate the website and will check it out and book mark it. Best to you and your condition too!!

Happy to help!

It's nice to hear from others that think as I do. A specialist is only as good as what he/she cares to be and I hope yours is really caring and good. Keep me updated!
