thrombotic hemorrhoid drained

I have had hemorroids since my last pregnancy (8 years ago.) A couple of days ago one of my hemorroids became enlarged and painful. I went to the doctor yesterday and she drained the hemorroid. When she sent me home she did not give me any instructions and told me that I would not need pain medication. So I went home and helped my husband shovel and then the anesthetic (sorry can't spell) began to wear off. I was in terrible pain the rest of the day. When I woke up this morning I felt a lot better, but there is still some pain. At this point my biggest concern is that I have not gone to the bathroom and I think it is because I am afraid of the pain. I have been drinking a lot of water and eating high fiber food - is there anything else I need to do? DO you think a painkiller might be helpful just to get me through that first bowel movement? I know that the longer my body waits the worse it will be.

Thanks for any advice.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, but let's see what I can find to help you. Here is an entire section that has all types of info about hemorrhoids...

Shoveling snow probably wasn't a good idea, although I can understand why you wanted to help your spouse. Personally I think your doctor was remiss in not giving you any follow up instructions. Have you called her office and asked for any suggestions?

If you don't find any helpful ideas within the link I provided, let me know and I'll search for more help for you, OK?

Thanks for your help and the link. I am feeling much better. I agree that my doctor should have told me more about what I should and shouldn't do. When she said that I wouldn't need any pain meds I assumed that that meant that it was no big deal. That it wouldn't bother me at all. I should have realized that I should take it easy, but I wasn't really thinking.

How are you feeling today Robin?

Shoveling snow probably was more strenuous of an activity than you needed to be doing, so soon after that procedure, but many of us were hammered with snow and helping your dh was a natural reaction!

If you still have any discomfort, or questions, be sure to call your doctor before the weekend begins. 'Crisis' situations seem to happen just as soon as a weekend starts, so make sure you aren't left with an entire weekend of pain!
