weight gain after gall bladder surgery?

Hi,
I had my gallbladder removed about 4 years ago. There were no stones present when they took it out. I had only had one attack but the surgeon recommended it come out anyway. I didn't know any better as far as getting a 2nd opinion as he pretty much scared me into the surgery by telling me if I didn't do it I may get another attack or my gallbladder may even burst. With that being said I went through with the surgery and I regret it now. I have gained a lot of weight since having the surgery and have not ever been able to lose it. It is very frustrating as I follow an exercise program and eat healthy. I weigh more than I ever have in my life. This was never a problem until I had the surgery. I am a bit upset that they never really explained the long term affects of surgery. I experienced the stomach upset a lot after the surgery which I would deal with but the weight issue is really bothersome. I was wondering if anyone else has experience weight gain after surgery and if so, what did you do to lose the weight?

Welcome wildflower!

As I explained to another poster recently, this surgery really has no direct bearing on weight gain. There is no physical reason because the bile that was being stored in the now removed gallbladder is still produced. It trickles and still does the same job. I was in my late 20's when mine was removed and am now in my 50's. My weight has never fluctuated more than about 5-10 pounds, in spite of a disability that keeps me from being as active as I'd like to be.

Have you considered seeing a nutritionist, to work out a plan to see if that might help you?
