Gallbladder out - when will gas go away?
| Mon, 03-19-2007 - 10:57pm |
I had my gallbladder out in August of last year, and since then I have had the worst gas! I burp constantly, and have bloating and am uncomfortable at times from the gas.
I admittedly have not been eating very well lately, and am hoping a low fat diet will help.
Any tips? Anyone else have this problem? I distinctly remember my grandma being very gassy, and she had her gallbladder out too - so could it be a hereditary thing?
Thanks!

Hi!
The first question I have is, did you contact your DR? The flatulence may be a result of diet, or of another issue. Second, change your diet. Try not to eat many foods that are gassy with each other. Spread them out. Remember whole grains, which are really good for you, can cause gas because of the high fiber count. Many veggies also have gassy properties. Have you tried over the counter stuff like GasX?
Hope others can help more!!
Did you have this problem with excess gas before the surgery? Beth mentioned a few good possibilities; what has your Dr. suggested?
Here is a great link to some information you may find helpful...

My GB was removed many years ago and certain foods naturally cause more gas than others, so I can't blame it all on the surgery. Another possibility is lactose intolerance; do you notice more of a problem after eating dairy foods?
