Proton pump inhibitors

Hello everyone, since May 2005 I have had problems with 'stomach erosion' as diagnosed by a GP, caused by overuse of NSAIDs and stress, alot of caffeine and irregular meals. I was prescribed Omeprazole at 20mg.

Taking the Omeprazole course for 8 weeks caused the unbearable burning acidic sensation to lessen considerably, but not to go away. Many months later I took the same medication again for a fortnight and subsequently have needed antacids much less.

Has anyone had any experiences with stomach erosion and proton pump inhibitors? Are there any foods to avoid aside from the obvious eg spices and caffeine? Does anything help? I read that mint tea helps to settle the stomach, and take it after meals, but am unsure as to its effectiveness.

The GP actually made the diagnosis simply by prodding me on the stomach a bit. Can diagnoses be made without sending little cameras into the stomach?

Thank you.

Welcome and please accept my apology for not getting to this sooner.

I have not had to take PPI's, but did find some great information about them...

I find mint and chamomile tea both soothing, but like you, am not sure how much real help they are. If it is simply my mind making me think it helps, fine with me!
