Does smoking aggravate GERD?

I was just wondering if smoking can aggravate GERD? I am on 40 mg of nexiun in the morning and then suppost to be taking 150 mg of zantac at night for severe heartburn and that "lump" feeling in my throat after I eat and first thing in the morning. I have stopped caffiene (I am a die hard Mountain Dew drinker, LOL!) today and I am trying to avoid the fatty, fried and spicy foods but, I was wondering should I kick the smoking too? Which I know I need to kick the habit for every reason known but, I was wondering if it was not helping my GERD.

Thanks in advance!
Jennifer

I honestly don't know Jennifer, but am guessing that any health care provider would suggest quitting, or at least cutting back. Here is some great information about GERD; this might give you some good tips too...
