Hi My dad is finally going to get his gall bladder out on Tuesday. I am so glad that this is finally happing. He has been having trouble with this on and off since xmas 2005. I don't know why it takes theses Drs. so long to do things. I still say it could be because he has no insurance just medicad or medicare, which ever on you have when you are older.

Welcome!

I am glad that your Dad is having the surgery, since it seems that this is what his doctor is recommending. It may have taken this long, if your Dad wasn't having any major symptoms. Does your Dad have any supplemental insurance through his last job? Many folks are able to continue coverage that will supplement what Medicare doesn't, although Medicare usually covers quite a bit.

Keep us updated on his condition and recovery and wish him the best!

His skin was actually orange and he was peeing orange before they finally did some testing. He had gall bladder attacks and the er doc would say you are just constipated go and home and take a laxitive. No my Dad is 73 and has no extra insurance and for some reason his medicare or medicad doesn't seem to cover alot in NH. He is up to almost 21000 in bills and he owes around 11000 and the hospital wanted to know if he would sell his house. He lives on 900 amnoth SS and they wanted him to pay 400 a month. I hate our hospital with a passion. But thank god they are going to finally help him. He has had the best luck threw the VA clinic but are limited in what they can do because we are a small town and the nearest VA Clinic is so far away.

I am so sorry that your Dad is having such a difficult time. You mentioned a VA clinic; is your Dad a veteran? Using the VA facilities will get him the care without the huge cost, but if it isn't accessible to him, not much help at all.

Has he worked with his health care providers to pay down his debts? If all he can pay is $5.00 a month, it shows that he is willing to work with them and they should not be asking him to sell his house!
