This is the second time I've gotten a fissure, due to constipation from being on anti-depressants. Does anyone have any experience with these and what did you do to treat/get rid of it?

Here is some information which you might find helpful...

Have you mentioned this problem to the prescribing doctor? Possibly he/she can Rx something else that won't cause constipation, or else you might need to become more proactive and be sure to drink extra water and maybe use a stool softener.

Welcome Amanda!

If you are following all the suggestions given by your doctor and are still having this problem, wouldn't it be better to see the specialist and get this taken care of? Luckily I haven't had a fissure that has gotten so bad, but I do believe that a softer diet and using all the Rx'd medications should have helped you by now.

I see my doctor at the end of this month and I am afraid that she is going to tell me that I have to see a specialist....so I am really really doing whatever it takes right now.

The first time I just took stool softeners and Fibercon and stopped taking my anti-depressants to stop the constipation. It didn't take too long to heal - week or two - until I was on my "regular schedule" again. I did end up at the gastroinoligist's office when I first started to bleed. I think my fear of not knowing what was going on caused a lot of my anxiety. But now that I know it's not life threatening or anything, I'm a little more calm this time around, even though it is painful. This time, I'm taking Dulcolax, eating lots of fruit and fiber cereals, and drinking a lot of water.
