Any thoughts? Stomach pains

I am being stubborn and my dh is getting impatient. I talked to my dr's office today, but they will only talk to me if I come in and I only want to do that if it is really necessary. It is really hard for me to arrange things to go to the dr.

Here is the thing. In the past 2 wks I have been hit with 4 "attacks" as I call them. The first one started one eve when my dh brought me a vanilla chai from d&d and some donuts. I drank the chai and had 1 boston cream donut. I started feeling this pain in the center of my chest, which I have felt before, almost like the food and drink is just sitting there. But it always went away shortly after or after a tums. Not this time. It just got worse and worse, and by bedtime I was in some major discomfort. My stomach was bloated, and it just felt like the worst gas ever. But to be blunt, I did not have to pass gas in any form, nor did I feel like I had to. I could not get comfortable, the pains were in my whole abdomen and up my back through my shoulders. If I got down on all 4's it felt better, so I did that. I also took gasX but that did nothing. As I tried to go to sleep, if I touched my stomach I felt 2 balls of gas (the only way I can think of describing) and I could move them around, which really did not feel good. This was unlike anything I had ever felt. Needless to say, I did not sleep much. The next day I felt really hollow, but better.

A few days later, I had a carb beverage and the pain in the middle of my chest started again, I discontinued the drink and took some gasX with no further problems, just some mild discomfort. This happened again a couple days after that with no real pain.

Then this past Sat I had another attack like the first, except this time the pain started like cramps from menstruation. My lower left side. I went to bed and woke up shortly after with the full blown gas pains, much like the first, except I did not feel any gas balls this time. I again got no sleep and was left feeling hollow and not so great yesterday. I also had a lump in my throat, which I still do.

I have tried the symptoms finder but there really isnt' anything with my symptoms. I have had 3 abdominal surgeries in my life and the gas after that was awful, but it is nothing compared to what I have just experienced. Is it just gas, or should I be concerned and go to the doctor? It would be kind of embarrassing to go for gas pains.

A little on my health. Although a recent physical put me in excellent health despite my 180 lbs on a 5'5" frame (not heavy entire life, just since having children in 03 & 06, am 34 currently). I am not a great eater, never have been. With taking care of my 2 small kids and a relatives toddler twins, I actually forget to eat meals myself and tend to grab little things through the day, not so good things. I am a social drinker, and will have a beer, margarita, with dinner a couple times a week. I just noticed in some of the symptom finder things that this could have some bearing on what is going on.

My dh is worried since I am NOT a complainer, not even after surgeries or difficult pregnancies. So seeing me in the discomfort has really thrown him off. LOL

Any ideas, suggestions, or otherwise?

I can understand your reluctance to see the doctor, but sometimes it IS a necessary evil. Your eating habits may have some bearing on what is going on. The only thing that I thought about is lactose intolerance, after reading about the Boston cream donut. Have you noticed any pain, gas or bloating after ingesting dairy products?

Keeping a food diary for a short time may help target which items are causing you distress. If this doesn't help, you must go in and see the doctor. It really isn't fair or wise to expect a diagnosis or suggestions from a phone call. Your doctor is trying to be thorough and also protect him/herself!

Let us know what happens, OK?

Something kind of similar happened to me abut 2 months ago. After and during eating, I would get terrible stomach aches, weird sensation in my throat and ears, and pain in my right shoulder. I am 23 years old and in good shape, dont eat alot of fried food or carbonated drinks, so I've never suffered from any type of acid reflux. After about a week of this discomfort, I saw my DR. and he explained it as an acid reflux attack :0) I'm not sure what set it off, but he gave me samples of some sort of medication that I had to tqake evryday for about 2 weeks since tums and other antacids didnt alieveate the symptoms. After taking the medicaine (for the life of me I cant remember what i was) I felt fine and havent had any indigestion or acid reflux at all. Another thing that he mentioned was that some people have probelms with their gallbladder which will cause this type of dicomfort. I went and had blood work done, and that was ruled out.

If you are experiencing the same kind of thing I went through, I absolutely understand how uncomfortable and painful it can be. I would definatly suggest that you go to see you DR., hopefully he/she can give you something to alieveate the pain and get to the bottom of it! Good luck!

Welcome and thanks for sharing what helped you! Sometimes a visit to the doctor is necessary and it never hurts to ask for samples of medications that are Rx'd. No point in spending money, if samples can be had!

No problem! I think I said yesterday that ny DR called it an acid reflux attack, but actually it was heart burn that was causing it. Im sure there's a difference :0)
