Has anyone out there ever had a endoscopy done? Well, my endoscopy was scheduled for June the 6th but, we just found out the date that my dh needs to be in Maryland to start work. They want him there on June 4th so, I half to take dh to NC to turn in his truck and then drive to Maryland so he can be there on the 4th to get signed up with union and all and I was going to stay for a week (my old neighbors will have my kids so, a whole week's vacation for me....YAY!!!) to look around and try and find a house (the anxiety over that part is a WHOLE different story!). Then I was coming back here and the kids and I will be staying with my fil (actually we all are moving out of my house next weekend and putting our stuff in storage and moving in with my fil) for about two months and then dh will be back down to get us and then we all will be in Maryland. Anyways, my point is that the upped my endoscopy to this coming Tuesday at 11:30!! I am SCARED to death and have no idea what to exspect! Do they put you completely asleep for it? Will you feel anything? I told them I have anxiety and they told me not to worry it will be over before you know it. Easy for them to say!! I really need to have this done because of my severe GERD that I have. They did up my nexium to twice a day instead of once a day and it has helped with that lump feeling that I have in my throat everytime that I eat but, I still have severe heartburn.
PLEASE tell me that once again I freaking out over nothing!!
Hugs and love to all,

Welcome Jennifer, you already received two great replies!
I have not had an endoscopy myself either, but have had many other procedures done. All have been done with an anesthetic referred to as 'twilight sleep'. Once they add that to the IV, you won't remember a thing and will be waking up in the recovery room. To put it mildly, it is wonderful stuff! LOL
You certainly have many things going on right now and all of it is adding to your stress levels, so getting this test done and out of the way is good. Just be sure to have some help on the day of your test because you should need a ride home and will feel tired. Take it easy that day and rest!
Please let us know how you do and of course we'll be waiting for those test results right along with you.

<My daughter just had one done last week, they used general anesthesia on her, but they don't do this on an adult, either way, they make sure you are totally out of it and during this procedure they took pinch biopsies, and they had pictures when they were finished, so I could see the erosions. The whole thing took 10 minutes and she felt nothing afterwards, she was just groggy. They put her on prevacid twice a day, it disolves on her tongue because she has problems swallowing, and something called carafate which coats the stomach. The whole procedure was real easy.
