question about ultrasound
| Mon, 05-28-2007 - 6:15pm |
On Wednesday I am having an ultrasound on my gallbladder. My mom told me that the only way that any problems would show up is if I was passing stones at the time of the ultrasound. How true is this? I'd rather not waste my time if that is the case.
Thanks for any help.

Welcome Sherie!
Will contrast be used during the ultrasound? That would help determine if stones are present.
You may want to pose your question directly to your doctor, if you still have any doubts about the necessity of the test.

<When I had an ultrasounds for the gallbladder contrast wasn't used. They were able to view the stones (one was attached to the wall of the GB and not moving at all). They were also able to determine that the GB was inflamed (larger than it should be) and that the walls were thickend (evidence that the inflamation had been present for some time).
I think they were also able to see sludge in the ultrasound (but I might be mistake ).
That's just my experience - definately ask your doctor.
