Has anyone had luck with prescription drugs, or is managing IBS with diet the better way to go?

What did your doctor Rx and suggest about diet? Here is some great information about IBS...

Since we are so unique, what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. There may be a lot of trial and error before you find the right combination of things that help you. For myself, I have a pretty good idea which foods will cause me distress and have the choice...do I eat something I really, really want and pay the consequences, or not?

Thanks so much for this info, it was very helpful! I haven't been to a doctor officially, my father-in-law is a gastrointestinal surgeon and he's "diagnosed" me. But, from what I've read I'm pretty textbook IBS. I had salmonella last year and they think that's what's brought it on. The web site you pointed me to mentions that specifically too. I think I can do it by avoiding dairy and fatty foods, those seem to be my triggers. I was just curious about experiences people have had with Rx.

Be sure to check back occasionally, since someone may see your question and answer it at a later time!

Do you know if you are lactose intolerant? You mentioned dairy being one of your triggers; have you tried using the lactose enzyme? Lactaid is a brand name, but there are good generics too; both are OTC.
