Well I may as well start out with the short version of my whole story. Hopefully somone can relate to my story and maybe i can find some input from someone out there...
In the past, i have had a few episodes where my stomach hurt really bad. it wasn't as if i had to go to the b-room, it was just painful. only time would make it better. i had to go home from vacation because of that back in 2003. Never thought about it, never thought i should see a doc. last year I had a baby girl. then, in december of that same year, i started this awful episode. I am pretty sure it all started with a case of food poisoning. ever since that point i have had issues with my bowels. it started with the big D. i had awful gas, bloating, mucus, D, constantly. over the months, it gradually got a little better. I have been tested for everything. blood tests, lactose tests, even had a colonoscopy last month. nothing wrong with me. at this point, i still have mucus in my stool, bad gas, bloating, but now i am dealing with constipation. it seems as if i can go to the bathroom, i feel a million times better. i just cant get myself to go unless i take a laxative. yesterday was awful- i had to pretend i was feeling just fine all day, when really i had intense grumbling in my tummy, gas, and bloating. i finally made it home that day and ran to the toilet, only to pass a ton of gas, and even then i didn't feel completely better. this all seems to get worse during the week before my period. Cripes- i can even SEE my abdomen move when i feel bad! YUK! THis whole thing just sucks so bad... i just want to be normal again. i dont know if there is anything my docs missed. could all this really be caused by stress? could i still have some sort of bacterial infection that could have been remedied months ago by putting me on an antibiotic (which i have NOT ever taken since this started). there is no rhyme or reason with food and which triggers this. one day is good, one day is bad, and other days are awful. i feel so cheated- it effects my personal life (sex) and it effects my work life (how do i travel all day?). If anyone has any ideas for me to get this thing under control i would greatly appreciate it!!
thanks for listening.

My gastro doctor told me that birth control pills can actually cause IBS symptoms.
Well, it has been a little over two weeks and i dont think the enzymes are the solution for me!!! They really aren't working at all. .. i think the first week was just a coincidence that i was feeling fine. since then i have been going to the bathroom like crazy. i have gone 3 times already this morning!!! yuk. i need something that plug me up. haha. I was thinking about the citrucel stuff- its a laxative, but it says its a "bulking" laxative. oh, i also found this IBS stuff..it has "lactobacillious blahblah" stuff. So i guess its a probiotic (?). I will see how this works out. OK, so i have to ask this question, and i know its TMI. But like, even when you sit down to pee, do you leak BM? i think i could deal with this whole thing alot better if that didn't happen, and if i didn't get a rotten gut feeling all the time.
ok, enough for now!

what a wonderful site!!!!!
Hi Kendra, sorry to hear that the enzymes didn't help you. Have you ever tried acidophilus? I take it three (3) times a day and it really does seem to help me.

<There is hope. I dealt with the exact same thing, also finding that it zapped my energy and my day would be shot. I believe that what you may be dealing with is Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I have not been formally diagnosed, but my sister was diagnosed with it, and we have the same symptoms. When I started having this trouble, I was not working. I recently went back to work and it was IMPERITIVE that I find a solution.
I noticed in the over-the-counter section at the pharmacy a supplement called Digestive Advantage/Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It's a chewable, once daily tablet. I have been taking it for about 3 months now and I am a NEW WOMAN!! I used to have constant bouts with this syndrome and many severe bouts(level of severity was about a 9 on 1-10 scale). Now, I may occasionally have a bout with it, but the occurrences are fewer and fewer, and the level of severity is about a 2 on that same scale. I found in my area that I could purchase it at Target, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, or CVS pharmacies. It worked for me!! Good luck
Thank you for sharing what has helped you. Can you tell me what the ingredient list is...what each tablet/pill contains?
