Hi all, I hope someone can give me some insight here.
Mty 17 yr old DD has always had a "nervous" stomache. But about three weeks ago she got a virus with a sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, pink ear etc. I took her to the MD and he gave us a scrip but told us not to fill it for a few days unless she didn't feel better. Long story short, I filled it this week and she's been taking it. When she first got sick she lost her appetite and was complaining of nausea - pretty much all day. She still has no appetite after 3 weeks, She's lost about 8 lbs,is frequently nauseous and feels full after a few bites. She's also complaining now that when she burps, she gets a little bit of vomit in her mouth. We have an appointment with a GI doc but not until 7/31. anyone experience anything like this? Does anyone have any suggestions that might relieve some of these symptoms - especially the nausea? This is a kid who a few weeks ago could eat me under the table! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Grace, I am so sorry that your DD is feeling so poorly. Certainly not the way any teenager wants to spend the Summer!

Here is some basic information about nausea and vomiting that you might find helpful...

Since she just started the Rx medication, it could take a while before she notices any improvement. Ask her to keep a food diary, marking down everything she eats and drinks, along with how she feels afterwards. This could be helpful when she sees the specialist.

Please feel free to ask more questions, visit often and of course keep us updated!

Hi there, get her back to the family doc and ask them to test her for Mononucleosis.

Thanks for the info - that sounds a lot like what my DD is going through. I will definitely look into the mono route. Thanks again.

Thanks for popping in and sharing this information. It sure sounds like Mono might be the culprit.

Thanks so much for asking!
She is doing better. come to find out she is positive for H. Pylori. Since starting the meds Saturday she is improving daily. She's eating better although she still gets full very easily. But she also hadn't eaten hardly anything for 3 weeks so I'm sure she won't be able to tolerate what she used to eat for a long while - if ever. She still is queasy much of the time but even that is improving slowly.
what really makes me laugh though is the pills she has to take - they are huge and she has to take 8 a day - 4 in the AM and 4 in the PM. NOT easy to do when your stomache feels sick! But she's managing and getting better so we won't complain.
Again thank you so much for all the info and support I've received from this board!

When I was 18 I was on a med and it was just too high of a dose and the sight of a banana one day sent me puking. It may be the med I was better after a few days of a lower dose.
