Anyone else diagnosed with Acid Reflux Disorder and given prescription strength Pepcid aka Famotidine? Looking for answers regarding weird side effects I've been having...feels like I have very minor cramping and spasms in my lower abdomen (close to menstral cramps, but not as severe). Let me know!

Sorry you had to find us, but hopefully we can allay your concerns. Feel free to scroll through past messages because I know this subject has been brought up before.

How long have you been taking the Rx strength Pepcid? Have you been back to see your Dr., or is it too soon yet? Be sure to write down all of the side effects you are experiencing, to mention to your doctor at the next visit. You can also call and ask your pharmacist if there is any reason for concern.

Thanks so much for posting a response. I put in a call this am to both my OBGYN and my Primary Care to see what is going on. The pain I get is similar to ovulation pain and is actually coming from the same side I ovulated from. Only difference, this pain comes with tightness and a gassy feeling. We'll see! I'll keep you posted.

Well I saw my OBGYN...they believe the pain I am experiencing is either an ovarian cyst OR related to the medication as the area of sensitivity can also be your colon (yeah, it's that high up in your innerds!). By Primary has told me to stop taking the meds and get the ultrasound done on the cyst. We'll see what happens, but if it was the meds, I will be relieved. I can also handle a cyst if need be...things could be worse!

Isn't it just amazing how many 'parts' we have that can cause problems?

Good luck with stopping the med and also with the ultrasound. Keep me updated, OK?

I have acid reflux and have had it for years. I take Axid and Nexium but still have problems sometimes. I think in the beginning of taking meds it made me feel like I had to go to the bathroom alot. Sometimes diarrhea. That kind of thing. But after your body gets used to it, it doesn't seem to bother me as much. Pepcid and Axid are similar. So is Zantac. I hope you feel better.
