I am so scared!

Hello all,

I've had issues on and off with my stomach for years. I had my gallbladder removed in 99 and an endocscopy 2 years ago that showed nothing but mild gastritis. Well, I haven't been feeling well for a week. Had a stinging pain in my stomach for a few days now. And slight nausea. And just general not feeling well. So I was able to get in to see a GI. He did lab work and everything checked out except that I am very anemic. So now he wants to do an endoscopy AND colonscopy!!! I am soooo scared! And I am a very anxious person! Also, I am the mother of 6 kids ranging in ages from 23 to 16 months. And I just lost my mom unexpectedly last month. I am under a tremendous amount of stress and anxiety and now this. My mind automatically goes to the worst thoughts! I am so terrified. I'm sitting here at work and just feel like running away! Any encouragement is greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you for reading this.

Welcome to our group; I am so sorry I wasn't able to greet you sooner!

My condolences on the loss of your Mom. : (

You certainly have added stress that may have caused something significant, but better to find the cause early, right? Your Dr. may suspect some type of internal bleeding, since you are suddenly anemic.

What exactly scares you, the tests or the possible outcome, or both?

Thank you for your post. I'll be having an endoscopy as well as colonoscopy tomorrow. I've been praying and leaning on God to get me through and it has kept me very calm about the whole thing. It's just the preparation for the colonoscopy that's a challenge. I had to fast yesterday all day for an abdominal ultrasound (which was fine) and now today, I'm on a liquid diet in preparation for the procedures tomorrow. So I am quite lightheaded at the moment and I am sooooo hungry! =)

How did you feel after the procedure?

Welcome and thank you for sharing your experience! Sometimes it helps just to know what other's have felt and no one can explain it better than someone that has had these procedures done.

If you wouldn't mind, would you please refrain from typing your messages in all caps?

Thanks for sharing your experience about the procedure!

Would you please refrain from using all caps in future messages? It can be difficult for some of us to read and can be construed as 'yelling'.

Hello:

I sympathize with you and your 'GI' situation. I have had the same problem since 1989. I now take NEXIUM (3 years straight) and don't have the problems. I honestly do feel that you may have alittle esophagitis/and perhaps an ulcer. I don't think you have to worry, as I feel that whatever it is, it can be treated. The doctor is just being cautious... and I would definitely, if you haven't already, get both tests done together. It is easier on you... and being asleep.......the best way to go. I too lost my mother (I was age 29) and I know that its very difficult when you have children of your own and lose someone as important as "your mom". My sympathy goes out to you and your family at this time. I want you to let me know how your tests come out...... I truly think you will be just fine.......worrying just makes it worse.......I know...as I was the world's worst worry-wort! Think positive......everything will be okay.....my prayers are with you. Linda P.

Sorry for using all capital letters. I use a computer at work and they want you to use all capital letters because they cant read it. Its a habit.

Hello! It's been awhile since I've been on the board. Just wanted to update you on my endoscopy and colonoscopy done last month. The doctor found gastritis and 2 polyps but everything was fine. Thank God! I continue to take one Aciphex at night and 10 mg of Elavil most nights. My stomach has been good, occasional heart burn but no more pains. I guess the stress of losing my Mom played a big role in how I was feeling with my stomach issues. I'm still grieving for my Mom but thank God I'm feeling better stomach wise. Thanks to everyone who posted. Hope all of you are doing well.

Thanks for the update and so happy to hear that you are doing well and nothing too serious was found.

Yes, the stress of losing your Mom so recently certainly could be a factor in how you were feeling. The sadness will lessen with time, but it never goes away completely. Today it is 8 years since my Dad passed away and I am not 'sobbing' sad, but have felt kind of introspective all day...does that make sense?
